Final Jeopardy: International Competitions (7-7-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (7/7/2015), in the category “International Competitions” was:
Due to developments in 2012, this annual summer contest now lists no winners from the years 1999-2005.
New champ, Jess Lindoerfer won $17,801 yesterday. She tries for a second win today against these two players: Bridget Ker, from Hamilton, ONT, Canada; and Sawyer Morgan, from Fishers, IN.
Round 1: Sawyer found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “A Speech to Congress” under the $600 clue before the first break. He was in a tie for second place with Jess. They both had $600, $1,000 less than Bridget’s lead. He bet the $1,000 allowance and he was RIGHT.
In September of 2014 President Poroshenko of this country asked for more U.S. help against Russian incursions. show
Bridget finished in the lead with $5,600. Sawyer was second with $2,000 and Jess was last with $1,200.
Round 2: Bridget found the first Daily Double in “The 16th Century” under the $1,600 clue. In second place with $9,200, she had $400 less than Sawyer’s lead. She bet $1,800 and she was RIGHT.
Led by Altan Khan around 1550 these people invaded China & laid siege to Beijing. show
Bridget got the last Daily Double in “Philosophic Phil In” under the $2,000 clue, last of the round. She was now in the lead with $12,200, $3,800 more than Jess in second place. She bet $2,000 and thought it was “solitary.” That was WRONG.
Aristotle: Man is by nature a _____ animal. show
Bridget finished in the lead with $10,200. Jess was next with $8,400 and Sawyer was in third place with $7,600.
Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
On October 22, 2012, the New York Times reported: “The International Cycling Union announced Monday that it would not appeal the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s ruling to bar Lance Armstrong for life from Olympic sports for doping and for playing an instrumental role in the team-organized doping on his Tour de France-winning cycling squads. That decision to waive the right to take Armstrong’s case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the highest court in sports, formally stripped Armstrong of the seven Tour titles he won from 1999 to 2005.”
Sawyer got it right. His $3,990 bet brought him up to $11,590.
Jess didn’t know what she was trying to write down and neither did Alex. She lost her $6,801 bet and finishing with $1,599.
Bridget came up with the Pritzker Prize. She lost $6,601 and finished with $3,599 and that means that Sawyer Morgan is the new Jeopardy! champ.
Sawyer Morgan is an engineering student. During the chat, he talked about the fascinating habits of his favorite creature, the cuttlefish: it can change colors rapidly, it has one fin that wraps around its body and it shoots out its tentacles to capture its prey.
2 years ago:: ALL of the players got this FJ in “Authors”
He quit pursuing a Ph.D. in 1926 to pursue drawing, but you might say he gave himself the degree anyway. show

Thanks VJ & Eric. Lackluster game.
Low money amounts. 3rd place came from behind to win game on fj. Congrats Sawyer.
@VJ, I lost track of the triple stumpers but below are three that I recall.
1. Kitty Kelley – unauthorized biographies.
2. Dick Van Patten (died last month after the show was taped probably).
3. Berlioz – composer of Symphonie Fantastique.
There were others but these 3 ts stuck in my mind.
Just looked at the part before the first commercial – there were 4:
There were two in the Done “D” category.
$800 – In 1622 the Janissaries did this to Osman II (one wrong guess – decapitate)
$1,000 – Used harsh measures to force someone to do something or assailed them with cavalry
(the slow response on “detoxed” made me laugh — it was almost like no one wanted to admit they knew it. Maybe that was the case with Kitty Kelley later. LOL!)
And two in the Speech to Congress
$400 – “William Seward’s first speech in Congress helped bring this youthful queen of the Pacific into the Union in 1850. (one wrong guess – Alaska)
$1,000 – In 1951 he said, “I know war as few other men now living know it, and nothing to me is more revolting.”
Imo, the categories in the double J! were good — the contestants, not so much. It’s not looking like we’re gonna have another multi-day winner for the rest of the season, is it?
I love the champ’s name.
That cheating piece of junk referred to above not only disgraced his sport and country, but a fantastic athlete. Greg LaMond is not only the a three-time winner and a Sportsman of the Year, but a fantastic example of overcoming adversity.
Now tell us how you feel about him, Eric. :):)
Just in case you didn’t see, I left you a message on Friday’s recap page.
Truthfully, I was actually being polite.
I did thanks!!
Congrats on the correct prediction, Jacob.
I didn’t have a chance to count, but it sure did seem like a lot of triple stumpers in this match.
Yes Jacob, good call!
VJ, would use please either drop the “the” from the first credited DD response, or add a (sic)?
I dropped it because that was what I said. Sawyer just said Ukraine. 🙂
Check this out: Ukraine, not The Ukraine
“The Ukraine is the way the Russians referred to that part of the country during Soviet times … Now that it is a country, a nation, and a recognized state, it is just Ukraine. And it is incorrect to refer to the Ukraine, even though a lot of people do it.”
Thanks for bringing that up, Eric.
Thank you!
