TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT ARE SWITZERLAND & ITALY?
According to Matterhorn Chalets’ site, the Matterhorn is “the 12th highest peak in (Western) Europe; the 10th highest mountain in Switzerland; and one of 48 Swiss peaks above 4000m.” I appreciate that they didn’t give an exact number in view of the May 2023 agreement reached by a joint Italian-Swiss commission to redraw the Italian-Swiss border due to a shift in the tallest point of the Matterhorn. This came about due to melting glaciers, as this video explains. I usually dont’ post videos this long but there’s a lot of interesting maps and history here. Go to the 5 minute mark if you want to skip some of that.
As of this date, the agreement has been ratified by the Swiss but they are still waiting on the Italians to make the new border official.
Andi went with Switzerland & Germany. She lost $1,600 and finished with $5,800.
Ricky got it right. He bet $2,600, bringing his score up to $27,000.
Scott got it right, too. He bet a whopping $24,000 and won the game with $50,400. Way to go! Scott’s 2-day total is $68,000.

2 triple stumper from the first round:
WORLD CAPITALS ($400) One theory for its name goes back to a Spanish or Portuguese explorer who exclaimed, “I saw a mountain”
MARVEL CHARACTERS ($600) In the film subtitled “Civil War”, Iron Man mockingly calls this guy the Manchurian Candidate

If I had been in Ricky’s dilemma having $12,000 to Scott having $22,400, I would have bet $8,000 to put me closer to Scott’s lead if I got it right.
As I commented yesterday, when two players go into Final with high totals, one is likely to take home a bucketful of cash. Italy/Switzerland came to me right away (unlike any of the DDs), but I was not the least bit certain. Thought maybe it was something weird like Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
Players left me in their wake on many of the clues tonight. I got them only on the conductor’s gesture.
I did take time out to take a quick peek at the FJ answer (which was posted above),and I instantly came up with the correct response. Yeah, it was a freebie to be sure.
Well I’m afraid that I can’t watch today’s game because of the holiday, but a happy Fourth Of July everybody!
Happy Fourth to you too, Rick. Don’t forget Jeopardy! puts the last round up on their YouTube channel later
😲
Wow! What a game that turned out to be in Double Jeopardy! I’m glad Scott had a big payday today (Go, Somerset County!) Kudos to Ricky for giving it his all!
There was only 1 stumper in the whole second round. I put it in the Sneak Peek clues.
What a way to celebrate the 4th of July. There were certainly lots of fireworks in today’s game. 50,400 is the highest payout this season. Ricky made a big bet and it paid off but Scott retook the lead and carries it going into FJ! Ricky has to be a candidate for next season’s Second Chance cause of his spectacular performance.
