Sarah found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “American Author” under the $600 with 9 clues left after it. She was in second place with $2,800, $800 less than Nikhil’s lead. Sarah made it a true Daily Double and went with Washington Irving. That was WRONG.

Three clues later, Joey found the last Daily Double in “French History” under the $1,600 clue. He still had the lead but with $8,400, $3,000 more than Nikhil in second place. Joey bet $1,000 and said June. That was WRONG. He totally misunderstood that one!

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS ATARI?
From Atari.com: “Despite some confusion among fans, Atari is not a Japanese company. But the brand does have a bit of a Japanese vibe. The word “Atari” / 当たり comes from the Japanese board game GO, which was a favorite of Atari founder Nolan Bushnell. Atari translates in Japanese to “hit the target.” The page goes on to explain that the designer of the Atari logo had no Japanese inspiration when coming up with the design. Apparently, it got the nickname “fuji” (because it looks like Mt. Fuji) after the fact.
Nostalgia: Listen to the 1981 Atari jingle
Sarah trolled Ken with “H+R Block”, the correct answer he didn’t get in his 75th game. Sarah bet $0 so her score remained $1,400.
Nikhil thought it might be Nintendo. He also went the zero bet route so his score remained $5,400.
Joey tried Samsung. He lost $3,401 and finished with $3,999. Nikhil Joshi is the new Jeopardy! champ.
2 triple stumpers from SMOOTH SINGERS:
($400) A 1990s “SNL” sketch called “Coffee Talk” praised this singer for having a voice “like buttah”
($1200) “Lose Control” was a 2024 No. 1 hit for this guy whose stage name sounds like a short sentence but actually includes an acronym

If anyone says “what an exciting game”, I’m going to have to challenge their sanity. I thought Nikhil was tearing it up, but then went silent. Then again, don’t ring if you don’t know is good strategy.
I was right that Joey was a one and done.
I got FJ because, and this is 100% true, a guy I know, knows Nolan Bushnell personally. And that’s the guy who started Atari (and Chuck E. Cheese)!
Hee hee, Joey looked like he was wishing he was anywhere else. Oh well, he still had one of the more respectable paydays of the week.
No show till about 1015 pm in our neck o’ the woods tonight.
For a short while, other than Sarah’s gag-inducing response of Washington Irving on that cinch DD (which may have shortened my life by a year), I thought this crew was decent. Then the misses and stumpers multiplied quickly.
Got the 2nd DD, but the 3rd and Final bewildered me. “Coffee Talk” singer wasn’t difficult, neither were Louis Armstrong’s duet partner or “Smooth Operator” singer. Indochinese site pretty well-known, although maybe just to history buffs and older folks.
Crafty non-wager by Nikhil. He locked out Sarah and knew Joey was likely to wager $3401 and had to get it wrong.
What an ugly Thursday game today. All three players played poorly and I love Sarah’s response in Final. She knew there was no way to win this game so she decided to come up with H&R Block and troll Ken Jennings.
Brian Chang did the same thing in his 1st game, which made Ken Jennings say “Now Brian, I know from experience. H&R Block is sometimes the right answer, but not today, I’m afraid.”
