NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS BANGLADESH?

Dhallywood is the nickname of the film industry in Bangladesh’s capital city, Dhaka. In an article that appears to have been published in 2009 (judging by the comments), Bangladesh.com says: “It is here that ninety percent of all Bangladesh movies are made and where the Bangladeshi film industry has grown to such an extent that it produces approximately a hundred movies annually.” That was during Dhallywood’s heyday which appears to have ended around 2007, according to wikipedia’s list of Bangladeshi films per year. Various online sources say that many cinemas have been forced to close since then due to the growth of home entertainment and satellite television, not to mention youtube and film piracy. Another factor named was “smutty” films, that one fellow said were worse than bad Hollywood films.

Jeff thought it was Laos. He lost his $13,398 bet, leaving him $2.00.

Andrew came up with United Arab Emirates. He lost $12,801 to finish with $1,198.

Kelly had no response. Her $17,000 loss left her with $1,000 and that made Andrew King the new Jeopardy! champ. He was even more surprised than Kelly was yesterday!

    @ John Christian

You just confirmed what I have been saying for years. And it’s not just that some Americans are ignorant when it come \s to foreign matters. These are players who ran through a preliminary test, test games….the average American does not care very much about ANYTHING foreign…geography, history, literature etc. We might pat for that attitude sooner than we think. I’m glad I’m not the only one noticing that. You would not believe the flak I got when I pointed out the shortcomings of Americans when it comes to foreign affairs, no matter what area.

  2. Richard Corliss says:

Those Final Jeopardy! wagers were diabolical.

  3. Albert says:

Andrew is good, but he guesses too much. I’ve noticed that players who guess too much don’t last very long and are lucky to win even 1 game in the first place.

  4. Marilyn says:

Kelly bet too much. Jeff could only win if the other two were wrong. He should have bet $4601 to cover Kelly if she bet nothing. Andrew’s wager was sort of smart, but he should have added $1 so he would beat Jeff (not tie him) if Jeff doubled up.

  5. Albert says:

Does anybody know where Jeopardy is currently having the in-person contestant auditions? They write about it on the official website, but don’t list the locale.

    • VJ says:

@Albert, if you click on the Contestant Faqs and read the After the Test and the Audition sections, you will see that the auditions are by appointment. Looks like they only tell the locale to the people they have chosen for in-person auditions

      • Albert says:

I believe I got a passing score on the March test and I checked the box stating Philly is my preferred audition site. If the auditions are in Philly already then I’m not getting the invite, but if the auditions haven’t reached Philly yet then I still have a shot.

        • VJ says:

Albert, if you have a way to put “alerts” in your news feed, put in “Jeopardy auditions.”

  6. VJ says:

Well, I could say I wish Kelly had hung on to more $$ — she played a great game today. But I already knew that Andrew was going to win because of the spoiler in the Howdies. I just didn’t know it was going to be like this!

I was kind of rooting for Jeff since he reminded me of our JJ when he said that he likes to play pub trivia.

  7. Louis says:

Shame no one knew FJ, but still Kelly should have bet at least 16000 to win the 2000 dollar minimum and lock the game, VJ. I mean I was stunned at their bets. Also what film festivals are close to where you are and have you visited them in the previous years?

Still Andrew is going to need to build up a lot more than what he won today if he wants to reach Gilbert Collins total.

    • John B./I. says:

      @Louis
All he has to do is exceed Ali’s 3 day total of 67.801 to lead the 3 game winners and become # 9 on the ToC list. But this is not going to happen unless he cleans up in his next 2 games…..And imo we WILL have 3 game winners in the ToC, unless they postpone it.

    • John Christian Ambion says:

No one knew FJ, because they don’t know what Asian capital begins with “Dh” or where Dhaka is, but their wagering proved VERY costly. I think PBS should revive WitWiCS so that children should learn more about that.

      • VJ says:

@John Christian, I thought at least 2 of the players would get this because I always think they have studied their world capitals. I think that people who know they are going to get on Jeopardy! should print out maps of the areas of the world they are not that familiar with and stick ’em up on the wall where they can see them every day till show time!

But just because one knows the world capitals well doesn’t mean you won’t forget or blank out on a few. The area I have the most trouble remembering quickly are the smaller Caribbean nations.

        • John Christian Ambion says:

That’s why PBS aired WitWiCS in order to learn about geography and it ran for four years from 1991-1995. Now, it is very alarming that some Americans are ignorant, trying to name the countries or place it on the world map. It must revive.

  8. John B./I. says:

    @Jacob ,@JJ
Congratulations! Should have gone with 0 myself instead of 1, still giving the players too much credit. At least India did not come up.
Congratulations to Andrew, strange wager though, but it won him the game since Kelly used the “clean up” strategy at FJ. Had she wagered the “conventional”9.999, she would have won , and if both had been right Kelly would have still won by a buck had Andrew wagered everything . Well, you live by the sword, you die by the sword.
Congratulations to Andrew (another lawyer) for winnig!
And we have yet another champ, the ToC list remains unchanged and a new countdown starts…even if we get another 3 day champ, s/he would have to exceed Ali’s 67.801 and Marty’s 65.900 to knock them down a spot. Andrew has a rather low start, even if he gets 3 together, he would have to win 4 games. 4 beats 3 anytime, regardless of the amount, I believe?
