WHAT IS BILTMORE?

According to the Timeline on Biltmore.com, George Washington Vanderbilt, a grandson of shipping magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt. In his mid-20s, George Vanderbilt visited the Asheville, NC area and decided to build a country estate there. This visit planted the seed that led to the construction of a 250-room French Renaissance chateau that was completed in 1895. The first part of the estate’s name stems from the Dutch village of de Bilt, from whence the Vanderbilts ancestors came. The second part is simply the British term “moor” for an expanse of open rolling land.

Sunny didn’t have a response. She lost her $4,000 bet and finished with $2,200.

Jacob had Broadmoor. Close but no cigar! He lost $4,200 and finished with $4,800.

Dan wrote down Prairie followed by a blank line (presumably for the Dutch part). He bet $8,101, dropping him down to $1,799. That made Jacob Hale the new Jeopardy! champ.

1/3 on DD, and missed FJ. Yuck!

I thought I did better than I actually did on TS.

Again, it (unnaturally) bugs me when people make $X500 wagers.

Jacob seems quite affable. I hope he can get a couple wins in, and get himself a bit of coin!

  2. Howard says:

Competitive game, with a very difficult Final, but the first and 3rd DDs were VERY knowable.

I thought a few of the stumpers were not that challenging: money to a musician; “F” stroke of luck; Mitty’s author; Tagus connection.

Not sure why Jacob wagered $4200. $3401 would have been enough to win if he and Sunny hit FJ and she went all-in, and of course they had to hope Dan missed Final and bet large, which he obligingly did.

  3. Rick says:

Well, it was another great game, and I performed about average. Yeah, an American home so famous that no one got the FJ right (including myself). With a 250 room home like that, I couldn’t even begin to imagine the property tax (or rental fee if you prefer) on that property. Of course,, I’m sure that any of the robber barons could easily afford it. In any case, all I could come up with was Camp David. What goes on here? The last two FJs were a cinch, and then we were dealt a losing hand.

  4. Ismael Gomez says:

All 3 DDs were missed resulted a shutout and a triple stumper in the final resulted our tenth epic fail on wagering clues.

  5. William Weyser says:

Dan Hopkins, darn those Daily Doubles!

  6. VJ says:

Wow, nevermind the FJ! fail, I think Dan will be kicking himself over those DDs for a while. He must have been expecting material that was more difficult and overlooked the obvious.

As for the Tiger DD, I immediately heard the voice of George Sanders. lol
