Another somewhat uneven game. My 2 fellow Queensites (is that a word?) started out OK but the thoroughbred took charge at the half-mile pole. I did quite well but also made some expensive, glaring errors. I did get all 3 DDs. The first wasn’t a gimme, but the foreign language in the clue and the big hint about the former city name revealed it. I don’t drink wine but I read about it sometimes, so got that DD. The Russian church’s name happens to be the same as the one my wife belonged to when we met. The few stumpers stumped me too.

I didn’t think anyone would get Final, so props to Nabil for that. I might not have known it if I hadn’t heard about him recently. I think it was an interview with Chris Nolan on Colbert’s show.

Wow, it freaks me out when contestants say they’ve been trying to get on for 20+ years. Not sure if I’d have that persistence. I tried out once, wasn’t particularly brilliant or charming, but got called 3 months later. One guy from Sacramento was on his 5th try. He passed the written test but I don’t know if he ever made it to the finish line. My sister got picked for WoF 40 years ago but was pregnant and sick and never got the magic callback.

It sure was a good game for Adam. I got the candle poet and the one mentioning the fairy tale villain but I never knew it was the name of a plant.
