WHAT IS CANTERBURY?
In 597, Augustine, an Italian monk, was sent to England to convert pagans to Christianity. He built a priory on the site of present-day Canterbury Cathedral. Augustine became the first Archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the Catholic church in England. Canterbury timeline
In 1170, Archbishop Thomas Becket fell afoul of King Henry II and was brutally murdered in Canterbury Cathedral. News of the martyred archbishop spread throughout Europe, he was canonized and people made pilgrimages to Canterbury. The church had to be rebuilt after a fire in 1174. In 1220, When St. Thomas Becket’s body was placed in a new shrine, pilgrims again flocked to Canterbury. More than 150 years later, Geoffrey Chaucer was inspired to write “The Canterbury Tales”.
In 1538, after breaking with the Catholic church, Henry VIII sent troops to Canterbury to destroy Becket’s shrine. The last Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury died in 1558.

I knew the idea for Final, but got the city wrong. I said Westminster.
I concur on Brian’s errors. What I noticed was, twice, he didn’t follow the topic (like Breaking Bad, instead of Walter White). Once, maybe. Twice? Inattentive.
I hope we’ve shook off the cooler effect of Amar. The numbers look like it. I, too, hope Adriana “brings it”!
By the way VJ, thanks for the synopsis on Canterbury. Yes, I remembered the row between Archbishop Thomas Beckett and King Henry II.
You’re welcome, Rick. I’m glad you liked it.
I thought that the DDs and FJ were tough, but the latter was certainly gettable. Actually, I went for London in FJ. In any case, it was another great game!
FJ puzzled me. I said Glastonbury just because I like the name.
Surprised no one knew the Valmont novel, later a big movie. The Cuban dance and the NJ strip club weren’t terribly difficult. If they got the ruse/rune clue, then maybe someone should have known the $600 one.
I don’t know whether it was nerves but Brian got reckless in the 2nd half. Not paying attention to the categories led to incorrect responses. Wagering so much on the 3rd DD was not wise imo when there were so few clues left on the board and his rush to respond led to a bad ending for him. Adriana is sharp. We’ll see if she wins tomorrow.
Btw, Is it me or have I not been paying attention at the end of the show? Tonight Ken signed off with “I’m Ken Jennings.” VJ, can you explain this? When he said that my thought was “Is there anyone who doesn’t know who he is?”
I don’t know what possessed Ken to sign off like that but I’m quite sure there are people who don’t know who he is. I was in ICU when Alex Trebek died. A nurse came in there and asked me if I knew “the Jeopardy! guy” died. I did because Nikki called me up earlier but I was certainly taken aback that the nurse didn’t know Trebek’s name! He was on TV every weekday for 36 years. I guess that means if Ken lasts that long, there will be people who don’t know who he is in 2057.
I kinda wished Brian got that Iberia DD. He previously gave it as a wrong response to the parish about the Duke and Adriana picked it up on the rebound. It was just because I thought he would have bet all he had and Adriana only bet 1K.
At that point in the game, I didn’t know how it would pan out but I doubt if it would have made a difference — Brian lost too much by not paying closer attention to some clues.
I totally agree with you VJ. Shortly after that unsuccessful DD Brian fell apart & is out.
Brian started off well but had a late encounter with the daily double and it backfired. A late incorrect response from him late in DJ! dipped him in the red and won’t be around for FJ! After Brain got the 29th clue incorrect, I knew he was immediately out because there is no way he can get out of the red to play FJ! with just the 400 clue left on the board.
