Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
OpenCulture.com has an article called “Mark Twain & Helen Keller’s Special Friendship,” which says in one part: We also have Twain— not playwright William Gibson— to thank for the “miracle worker” title given to Keller’s teacher, Anne Sullivan…. As a tribute to Sullivan for her tireless work with Keller, he presented her with a postcard that read, “To Mrs. John Sullivan Macy with warm regard & with limitless admiration of the wonders she has performed as a ‘miracle-worker.’” In his 1903 letter to Keller, he called Sullivan “your other half… for it took the pair of you to make complete and perfect whole.”
Andrea got it right after crossing out Wordsworth. Her $4,000 bet brought her up to $8,400.
Dev came up with Thoreau. He lost $13,300 so that left him $100.
Virginia had Charles Dickens. She lost her $5,401 bet and finished with $15,999, enough to win today’s match. Her 2-day total is $51,200.
Timeline stuff: Wordsworth died in 1850, Thoreau in 1862 and Dickens in 1870. Helen Keller was born in 1880.

Thought today would be an easy Triple-Get for sure. Wrong again. Journalist-author extraordinaire Mark Twain was well-known not only for his unfortunate cigar addiction, but also for befriending Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan, and coining that great description of her extraordinary teaching abilities — with a most ace and apt pupil.
Did anybody else guess Ernest Hemingway?
I did because I thought of his love for Cuba which made me think of cigars. I knew he was 20th century, but thought he may have written something in the 19th century. I later looked it up. I think he was born in 1899.
Do any of you play the J! 6 clues at the Jeopardy site? If you do, were you able to get in today/tonight?
Tried it this morning, again in the afternoon, and just tried it a minute ago, still nothing. Maybe they forgot to set up today’s game before taking the holiday off?
I think the whole site is having trouble. It won’t let me login, they logged me out somehow (even though I’m always logged in). It keeps saying I don’t exist. I have sent them messages but I haven’t heard back other than the email that says they received my email. I can’t even reset any of my info because the submit button doesn’t work.
I played the J6 this afternoon. I had no problems with the J6 today.
I always like when the distant 3rd place player gets the FJ, while the other two players with much more money answer the FJ incorrectly. I’m amazed what people know and what they don’t know. Jeopardy is such a humbling game.
Well VJ looks like memorial day started off good for our champion. Glad she made a wise decision not to bet too much. Although it’s a shame she was off by a decade in today’s final, I feel that Virginia might go for a streak like Josh did. I hope you enjoyed the holiday. Plus. Andrea did her best since Virginia was fast with that buzzer today, what do you think?
@Louis
Virginia’s bet was right on the money (pun intended) to cover Dev.
Dev’s 13.300 x 2, minus her total plus $1
Virginia got lucky today. The only one who had it right had not enough money to make it happen in FJ.
If Virginia can pull off #3 tomorrow then she has a pretty good chance to catch Josh in terms of games and money won. In any event she would be well positioned for the ToC.
Virginia was very impressive in the second round today. Good for Andrea for realizing Wordsworth was way off in time!
