The gruesome murders of Andrew Borden and his second wife, Abby, on August 4, 1892 in Fall River, MA, led to the arrest and murder trial of Lizzie, Andrew’s youngest daughter. Lizzie Borden was acquitted of the charges the following year. The sensational publicity surrounding the murders and trial gave rise to much gossip and many rumors, as well as the famous nursery rhyme “Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks.” (Actually, Abby was her step-mother.) To this day, books and movies continue to depict Lizzie Borden as everything from a crazed killer to an innocent victim.
As for the shoplifting accusation, see the last item on the Herald News article “Lizzie Borden: Fact vs. Fiction”

Well,. brandon finally broke the long curse of 1 and 2 day champs after 30 something days without a streaker. So hopefully key can keep his streak going as he is playing brilliantly so far. Let’s hope another triple solve tomorrow will continue help Brandon in his favor. VJ, even if lizzie was acquitted in the murder of her parents given the number of blows that the couple took by the axe. The case has gone cold hasn’t it?
You should read the Fact or Fiction article, Lou. The number of whacks was exaggerated.
As for the case being cold, I”ll say — whoever did it died a long time ago
VJ, does curse-breaking mean that Brandon broke the long spell of 1 and 2 day champions?
yes, of course, Kevin
My other question to you VJ why was Lizzie still being blamed for her parents’ death despite being exonerated? It puzzles me that lizzie has gotten away with such a heinous crime.
She was acquitted, Lou. It’s not the same as being exonerated. Acquitted means the jury did not find the evidence sufficient to convict her. Some people still firmly believed she was guilty.
If she had been exonerated, that would mean proof would have been presented to show she never should have been charged with the crime to begin with.
Agreed, and thank you again for the information my friend, much appreciated. VJ.
