Today’s Final Jeopardy question (4/25/2018) in the category “Geography” was:

In 1871 the official addition of this as a province gave Canada coasts on both the Atlantic & the Pacific Oceans

New champ Randy Mathews, won $20,000 yesterday. In his second game, he is up against these two players: Krishna Veeraraghavan, from Seattle, WA; and Jen Regan, from North Bergen, NJ.

Round 1 Categories: The Fast & The Fastidious – State Capital Facts – Crossover TV – On the Big Money – Damon Runyonesque Gangster Lingo – What’s Your Spirit Animal?

Krishna found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “On the Big Money” under the $800 clue, with 11 clues remaining after it. He was in the lead with $3,600, $800 more than Jen in second place. He said he always wanted to put all his eggs in one basket and make it a true Daily Double. He did and thought it was James Garfield. That was WRONG.

Jen finished in the lead with $4,200. Randy was second with $2,400 and Krishna was last with $1,800.

Round 2 Categories: Planet Earth – Emotion – You’re in Dutch Now – Singers – Ball – Chain

Krishna found the first Daily Double in “Planet Earth” under the $1,200 clue on the 3rd pick. He was in third place with $2,600 now, $1,600 less than Jen’s lead. He bet $2,000 of his “eggs” this time and he was RIGHT.

Only ONE of the contestants left in Final Jeopardy! got it right.

WHAT IS BRITISH COLUMBIA?

In 1867, Canada became the Dominion of Canada, with four provinces: Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with its only ocean border being the Atlantic. In 1870, Manitoba became a province and the Northwest Territories were added. British Columbia came next in 1871, bringing the border out to the Pacific Ocean. Check out this 1871 map of Canada. Manitoba was way smaller back then (that’s also shown in the video).

The Parliament of Canada has a chronological list of Canada’s provinces and territories, along with other interesting items.

Jen got it right. She bet $7,380, bringing her up to $14,780.

Randy came up with Saskatchewan. He lost his $7,401 bet, leaving him with $199. That made Jen Regan the new Jeopardy! champ.

I am sad he did not win. Saskatchewan is not right. The answer is British Columbia. He would’ve won $15,201 if he added his $7401 bet.

I’m glad Randy is out. His long drawn-out histrionics and his long requests (I’ll have ____ for $x please, Alex) kept the board unfinished two days in a row. So annoying when players do that.
On the other hand, Jen and Krishna were both polite and soft-spoken. Hope Jen gets on a streak.

Randy was trying to be a female version of Austin Rogers. IMO, it is ok to be funny/silly/quirky during the interview with Trebek, but chewing scenery during the actual game is annoying, and sometimes borders on the obnoxious.

This game is so mean to those contestants.

I thought Randy had potential to win again but I was sorely mistaken. Sorry to see krishna having a rough game but still though VJ, we have druhv added into the toc but will we see one of the regular.contestants join him in the ranks at the start of may before the teacher’s tournament begin? I thought Randy knew a thing or two about Canada provinces. But still I got to give Jen credit for getting this right.

@Lou, Yes, I was also sad to see that. I was hoping Krishna got his first DD. It was cute the way he said he always wanted to say true Daily Double. idk, I was happy to see Jen win (Jersey girl!) but I liked Randy’s spirit a lot. The way he answered that dying frog clue… LOL! Too funny. ROFL.

@Richard, I know you do but you probably wouldn’t if you were the one who had to do the extra work.

I still think it would be better if you cut the picture on the right.
