The Final Jeopardy question (4/16/2025) in the category “Places in the American Past” was:
It’s the building where the Stax Records classic “Knock On Wood” was written but it’s remembered for other reasons
5x champ Andrew Hayes, a law student orig. from Tupelo, MS, has now won $117,804 and qualified for the ToC. In Game 6, he takes on these two players: Denise LaBlanc-Bock, an architect from Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and Brenden Monroe, senior game producer from Seattle, WA.

WHAT IS THE LORRAINE MOTEL or THE NATL. CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM?
On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was fatally shot on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN. at 6:01 p.m. CST. He was standing outside his room No. 306 with several others. Rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, the 39-year-old civil rights leader was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. The Lorraine Motel was converted to the National Civil Rights Museum in 1991.
“Knock on Wood” was written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper at the Lorraine Motel in 1966 and first released by Floyd on the Stax label that same year. It has been covered over 200 times by everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Cher. I’d say the most well-known covers are by label-mate Wilson Pickett (second release in 1966), David Bowie’s cover in the UK (1974), and Amii Stewart’s disco version (1978).
Denise had no response. She lost $1,401 and finished with $3,799.
Brenden drew a blank as well. He lost $1,401 and finished with $3,799.
Andrew came up with Ford’s Theatre. He lost $8,800 but won the game with the remaining $20,000. That gave Andrew a 6-day total of $137,804. Go Andrew!
A triple stumper from each round:
BASEBALL ($1000) The carousel at Comerica Park features not horses but these animals
SAME VOWEL PAIR TWICE ($800) A wandering minstrel of the Middle Ages
2 years ago: NONE of the players got this FJ in “LIVES OF THE POETS”
At a seminary that classified students’ degree of faith, Emily Dickinson was “without” this, which she compares to a bird in a poem show

Yikes. 0/3 on DD, and missed FJ. I said “The Dakota”.
I thought Brendan was going to get dinged for his phrasing in the $1600 clue on the second category from the right. Maybe it was just the edit.
So, at least Andrew cleaned up. I thought this group wasn’t as sharp as yesterday.
Tough final. I remember Memphis-based Stax well (Otis Redding, to name just one). But that didn’t help. I said Graceland.
Got 1.5/3 DDs (half the middle one). Knew the Comerica team and the minstrel. Thought a few of the $1000/2000 clues were unusually easy. Especially the one in the Grecian category with “Republic” highlighted. (Pretty sure the Baseball stumper was $1000 value (recap shows it as $000).
I didn’t do very well in the game at all as the contestants were too fast with their responses. Anyways, that FJ was an absolute bummer as I wasn’t even aware of the song.
Man that final was tough… I guessed Sun Studios or Fords Theatre.
Well you were far closer than I was.
And we got a triple stumper since today’s final was tough.
You could certainly say that again.
