TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
Pamela Lyndon Travers started out writing in her birthplace of Queensland, Australia, directing most of her focus to poetry. Migrating to London, England, she wrote for newspapers before publishing her first “Mary Poppins” book in 1934. An immediate success, Travers wrote 7 more books in the series, ending with “Mary Poppins and the House Next Door” (1988). Walt Disney famously pursued Travers for many years for the rights to turn Mary Poppins into a Disney property. Travers eventually relented in 1961 when faced with dwindling royalties from the books and Disney’s offer of a big payday plus 5% of the film’s gross, as well as a consultant role on the film. The 1964 Disney film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke was a tremendous success and won 5 Oscars.
The 2013 film “Saving Mr. Banks”, starring Tom Hanks, purports to tell the backstory of the contentious relationship between Walt Disney and P.L. Travers. However, according to Hypable, there are at least “Nine ‘Mary Poppins’ facts ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ did not get right”.
Cyndi got it right. She bet $3,100 and finished with $9,500.
Susan went with “Christie”. That cost her $5,000 and left her with $8,800.
Bryce got it, too. He bet $13,000 and won the game with $28,400. Bryce Hwang is the new Jeopardy! champion.
A triple stumper from each round:

I dont know why dick van dyke was criticized in mary poppins because, imo, he sounded exactly like michael caine in alfie. I feel there is an unjust anti-american discrimination in the uk.
Also, doesnt susan look exactly like anne hathaway. I have a huge crush on anne hathaway so i was hoping susan would be a 30 game winner.
Susan is much cuter than Ann Hathaway!
I was hoping Susan would at least win 3 games. She is very knowledgeable and wasn’t timid with her betting. Sorry it turned out that way for her but I’m glad she won big last Friday.
Terrible job by Dr. Oz on Final Jeopardy. He never mentioned the work, “Mary Poppins,” referred to in the clue. Like me, probably a fair number of viewers never heard of Travers and were left wondering what the book was.
You’re right, Curt. Dr. Oz definitely dropped the ball on that one.
I didn’t even notice that he didn’t give any reason why that response was correct, the perils of knowing what the answer is before the show airs, I guess.
I’ve heard of P.L. Travers, but I’ve never read any of her books.
Oz is still way way way better than trebek.
Mary poppins will always be my favorite animated film. It just brings back a lot of memories for me. Glad to see two people get final right. Hopefully Bryce can string together more wins. Also agatha christe is a mystery novelist, not sure why Susan picked her.
@Lou, you’re doing it again — thinking that the contestants should know some info that wasn’t in the clue or category name.
I was amused today that they had a clue on the raspberries today after I blew a raspberry at the judges’ decision on the Dostoevsky pronunciation last Friday.
Terrific comeback by Bryce after missing that tough but gettable DD (Michelin). He waves his arms more than an orchestra conductor. Jeopardy legend Roger Craig often would raise one or both arms when giving a response. He’s one of my all-time favorites, but was a major disappointment at All-Stars.
