I was there, and still in high school when Ike died. It was my third “skunk” of the year 2022 in Final Jeopardy!

I think maybe they stack the deck with less-than-stellar players later in the season. It’s the only way I can justify getting many many Final Jeopardy skunks early on in each calendar year, and then falling short toward the end. Anyway, I got Van Gogh on Jan 12, and Hawaii on Jan 15. A “skunk” as I define it, is when I get the Final Jeopardy reponse correct, and all the contestants missed it. :

I’m surprised no one picked Dwight David Eisenhower in FJ, but then again, I failed to pick Garry Kasparov in yesterday’s FJ.

    • Ismael Gomez says:

That is why Bialik wins FJ again this week.

      • Jason says:

And, yet, Bialik still doesn’t seem to have her timing down. I don’t know if it is definitely that, or she is constantly referring to the judges. One example was the “Desert Storm”, and dead air from her, then the player saying “Operation Desert Storm” and Mayim nearly interrupts her to say she’s correct. It happened again with the guy, but, I didn’t note the clue. For me, she hasn’t gotten any better.

As for Eisenhower, I knew 1890-1969, just like Lindbergh 1902-1974. I got it right.

  3. Albert says:

For the Final I picked “Macarthur”.

    • Rick says:

No, the esteemed General Douglas MacArthur passed away in 1964.

      • Albert says:

How many people knew Ike’s and Macarthur’s dates of death while the Final question was being asked?

        • Howard says:

MacArthur came to mind first, but I quickly remembered being in 8th grade in 1964 when he died. Which also means I’m old enough to know about the short Ike jacket. That was a fairly tough Final. The GOATS would have known it despite their relative youth.

There were two smart contenders today, so I was a bit surprised no one knew the French writer-philosopher.

For anyone who hasn’t heard, Amy has taken leave from her job and signed with a talent agency in LA.

Tough final as we got another triple stumper. Nobody knows about Famous Americans.
