TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
These words are on John Le Carré’s official website on the author page. He is referring to leaving his job with British intelligence to take up writing full-time. He continues with: “I wrote my first three books while I was a spook; I wrote the next eighteen after I was at large.” (Update: it’s no longer on his website — click here for the full text from the Wayback Machine)
There have been several past clues on le Carré’s pen name, such as 2003’s BETTER KNOWN AS… ($2000) Spy novelist David John Moore Cornwell.
Marion got it right. Her $3,900 bet brought her up to $7,900.
Lisa also got it. She went all in and finished with $26,800.
Tyler thought it was Salman Rushdie. He lost his $8,901 bet, leaving him with $9,999. So Lisa remains champ and she now has a 6-day total of $139,100. We will be seeing her again next Monday!
A triple stumper from each round:
Q PEOPLE ($200) Later executed as a traitor, he took power in Norway in 1940

Thank you Dalton, I didn’t know!
Wow! it seems that Lisa is definitely on a roll now with her big win. She has surpassed Pranjal Vachaspati and Tim Aten’s total by 2000 and 32000 dollars. Hunter’s total is 145000 but how much does lisa still need to get to his total or tie with him, VJ?
@Lou, She hasn’t surpassed Pranjal — she needs $24,788 to match his winnings and $33,303 to match Hunter’s. I’d love to see her win at least 3 more games!

I’ve checked since she just won 139,100 dollars alraedy for game 6 now. I checked on my calculator and saw that Pranjal had 137,088 dollars. So I think a little bit of adjustment is to be made to her total as Lisa won game 6
You’re right, Lou. I was looking at her 5x winnings
Thanks, glad we fixed up on that small error. Still good luck to Lisa on monday as she faces her opponents before the college tournament. I wonder if this year’s tournament of champions reminds you of two other college players Jim Coury and Terry O shea participated in for 2014? I just also hope that Philip Tiu will be in this year’s toc as well, can’t let him miss out.
Thanks, Lou. This clue made me want to watch “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold” with Richard Burton. I found out it’s coming on the Retro channel on 2/11 so I set it up to record. DVRs rock.
The College Championship starts on February 13th.
We know.
I’m looking forward to that.
