WHAT IS DAVOS (SWITZERLAND)?

You don’t have to read too much of Thomas Mann’s 1924 novel “The Magic Mountain” (Der Zauberberg in German) to find out where it’s set. It opens with the main character, Hans Castorp, leaving Hamburg on a train bound for Davos, Switzerland. Hans intended to visit his cousin who is being treated for tuberculosis (TB) in a Davos clinic for 3 weeks, but ends up staying 7 years. Mann was familiar with the town and the sanitarium because he spent 3 weeks there when his wife was being treated for TB. The clinic shut down in 2024.

The European Management Symposium was founded in 1971 aiming to introduce American business practices to Europe. In 1987, it went international and the name changed to the World Economic Forum (WEF). An annual meeting is held in Davos, most recently, from January 19-23, 2026.

Roger crossed out Zurich & Basel, settling on Baden. He bet and lost his whole $6,200.

Long thought it was Innsbruck. He lost $8,000 and finished with $16,400.

Andrew got it right. He added $17,201, winning his second game with $48,801, as well as the entire tournament. Andrew wins $150,000 and a ticket to the Masters. Long and Roger each receive $50,000.

Trey Hart, the current champ in regular games, will return for his second game on Monday. We last saw him on December 12th, 2025. (Yes, it was that long ago!)
