Does anyone wonder (or know) if the contestant on the left during these recent tourneys might have a psychological advantage?

    • VJ says:

I don’t know what you mean exactly, but imo most of the contestants have an advantage over the others whenever their “wheelhouse” category comes up. Michael, for example, almost swept the rap category today.

  2. Howard says:

Props to Andy for nailing that tough FJ. Victoria was way too obvious, as well as not being a state capital.

Juveria was very shaky in first round, with numerous wrong answers. Those daring DD wagers put her right back in it, and both clues were pretty easy.

Surprised no one took a shot at the storied reference work. Those of a certain age know the Canadian star of “Bonanza” with the powerful voice. He also had a hit record called “Ringo.”

    • VJ says:

Oh, sorry, Howard, I didn’t see your mention of Ringo till after I posted mine. I remember Lorne Greene saying the song was released that year to capitalize on Beatlemania and the fame of Ringo Starr

      • Howard says:

It was also very popular in the US. And very imitative of the big hit by Jimmy Dean, “Big Bad John.”

  3. Jason says:

Haha, VJ wrote what I came here to say! For FJ, I said “Victoria”, as I said aloud “Adelaide is in New Zealand!”

Now, I knew it wasn’t Melbourne, because that was taken from the UK, and named after Lord Melbourne, played by Rufus Sewell in the series “Victoria”.

Now, a little more information: William IV, the King for the answer to FJ, was the oldest person to accede to the throne – until Charles III. When Charles’s son becomes King, he will be William V. William IV was the last King to select the Prime Minister personally, against the will of Parliament.

Got all the DDs. Was happy to see Juveria pull ahead.

And I knew “the voice of the CBC”!

    • Jason says:

Ack! No Melbourne city in the UK!

    • VJ says:

Good stuff, Jason. The last king to select the PM would make a great clue. Also, William IV had 10 illegitimate kids by an actress and Queen Adelaide treated them as part of the family. Adelaide had two living children but both died in infancy.

The “Voice of Doom” also had a hit song “Ringo” — it went to No. 1 in Canada in 1964

  4. VJ says:

For future reference, Victoria is a state and its capital is Melbourne (named after Lord Melbourne)

The only Australian state capital named after a woman is Adelaide.

Alice Springs is not a state capital, though it was named after a real woman.

  5. Rick says:

I did a tad above average in today’s game. As for the FJ, I took a wild guess,, and came up with Victoria. Oh well.

  6. Jacob Ska says:

A good fj clue imo. I’m shocked Juveria missed it. I think this is the 1st fj clue she has missed. Andy’s International background came through for him again. However, I’m still sticking with Juveria to win it all tomorrow. She’s superb.

  7. VJ says:

What an ending that was. Ugh. I felt Michael’s pain but I hope he remembered when the same thing happened in Buzzy’s ToC and Buzzy went on to win the next day.
