Charles Evans Hughes had quite a career, serving 2 terms as Governor of New York, and then as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. After a failed Presidential bid, he served as Warren G. His remarks regarding the Dred Scott case are quoted in many articles, such as Was this the worst Supreme Court decision ever? on the ABA’s site for law students.

    Sadly, nobody in 2018 swept a week, aka, win all games in a single day. Some did close on the Friday game, and it didn’t work out for them, and some of them lost, because 1 of their opponents made the game a runaway, and can’t be caught. Oh well, there’s always a chance for someone to sweep a week in 2019.

    Looks like the players ruined their Christmas with their DD wagers, and as a result, some of its clues were left hidden. I wonder what will they do with it. Anyway, Christmas came and went, and so is the position of the J! champion. I have a feeling there will be a lot more as 2018 comes down to its final days.

    Merry Christmas to you guys as well. Though jeopardy is preempted for me once again because of the NBA. Furthermore, LaSalle explored Mississippi and parts of Canada. How charbal didn’t know Champlain is beyond me. But I happy that two got the landmark supreme court final right. Lanier couldn’t catch up today. By the way VJ and John what did the Dred Scott decision state now according to the supreme court?

      @Lou
      It found that a slave was no U.S. citizen and could not sue in federal court. In addition it declared an act of Congress unconstitutional. This was only the second time it happened. The first time was 1803, when outgoing President John Adams and incoming President Thomas Jefferson. Adams tried to frustrate Jefferson by appointing a bunch of judges. But when Jefferson took office, some of the notices were not delivered yet and ordered his Secretary of State,Madison, not to deliver them because they would be void. The SCOTUS however ordered Madison to deliver them, the case was Marbury v. Madison, Marbury being one of the people who had not received their commission in time. The court issued a “writ of mandamus” , i.e. ordering the commissions to be delivered and thus declared a law that had passed NOT to deliver them as unconstitutional. The Scott v. Sandford decision is regarded by almost all historians as one of the more important reasons that led eventually to the Civil War.
      Hope that helps a little.
      J.

    Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating today. Remember when we couldn’t wait for the new season to start in September? Now there’s only one week left in this year… hope it’s a good one for everyone, too.

    Ah well, this was kind of a rather strange game I think. All 3 DDs missed, one by each and we have the new champ I expected. Yet I was surprised that 2 knew FJ! Always better to miss on this side than the other way around.
    And one more time Merry Christmas! Santa was very nice to me this year!!😊
