Final Jeopardy: The Movies (12-1-15)

The Final Jeopardy question (12/1/2015) in the category “The Movies” was:

The title of this 2009 Best Picture Oscar nominee alludes to the left tackle’s job in a football game.

New champ Joyce Hshieh won $8,201 yesterday. Today she takes on these two players: Frankie Lynne, from Atlanta, GA; and Shea Zellweger, from Kansas City, MO.

Round 1: Joyce found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “The Caldecott Medal” under the $1,000 clue before the first break. She was in the lead with $1,400, $800 more than Shea in second place. She made it a true Daily Double and she was RIGHT.

In the 1980s Chris Van Allsburg won 2 Caldecotts for “Jumanji” & this story of a northbound train. show

Joyce finished in the lead with $7,600. Frankie was second with $4,800 and Shea was last with $600.

Round 2: Joyce found the first Daily Double in “What ‘ia’ Country” under the $800 clue. She had a runaway lead with $16,800, $12,000 more than Frankie in second place. She bet $3,000 and took a guess with Bulgaria (the answer to the $400 clue, already a triple stumper) so she was WRONG.

The Netherlands relinquished sovereignty over it in 1949. show

Shea found the last Daily Double in “Collectors” under the $800 clue. In third place with $600, he had $15,200 less than Joyce’s lead. Having just got out of the hole, he passed on betting the $2K allowance and went with $599. He took a guess with Bruce Springsteen but that was WRONG.

In 2011 this rock legend auctioned off part of his guitar collection to benefit his Crossroads Centre Rehab Clinic. show

Joyce finished in the lead with $15,000. Frankie was next with $9,200 and Shea was in third place with $1,201.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “THE BLIND SIDE”?

Sandra Bullock actually won the Best Actress Oscar even though the film lost to “The Hurt Locker.” Bullock portrayed Leigh Anne Tuohy, a wealthy white woman who took in Michael Oher when he was a homeless teenager. She helped him realize and develop his potential, getting him into football “and ultimately Ole Miss, where he became an All-America left tackle and a first-round draft pick (23rd overall) by the Ravens in 2009.

Michael Oher has been outspoken about his dislike of the film as recently as June 2015, saying it has taken away from his career: “That’s why people criticize me. That’s why people look at me every single play.” (ESPN.GO.com)

Shea bet $1,200. He finished with $2,401.

Frankie didn’t have an answer. She lost her $2,000 bet and was left with $7,200.

Joyce also got it right. She bet $3,401 and won this match with $18,401. Her 2-day total is $26,602.

Just think. Now Joyce can throw the next party at her house in style. She can make it a Jeopardy!-themed party and won’t her guests be shocked when Alex Trebek shows up? They will, except the ones who saw yesterday’s game and heard him ask for an invitation to her next party.

  2. EricS says:

That movie annoyed me. At the first the main character was hanging out with his cousin. I think they both were going to the same school. So the big football player gets taken in. What happened to the other kid?
Idk I saw the movie a long time ago.

Frankie should have wagered $400 more. If she did, she’d have won if she got it right and Joyce got it wrong. Didn’t matter anyway. 42/57 here.

I think his people read your comment. And his comment “Your family fooled around a lot” —what’s wrong with Alex? I know, I know, he has lost his filter.

Now time is running out, only 2 clues left on the board, $400 & $1,000, which one do you pick first? Lately, the games have been like a reverse toc.
