Final Jeopardy: On the Globe (11-6-13)

The Final Jeopardy question (11/6/2013) in the category “On the Globe” was:

Of the 5 named circles of latitude on a standard earth globe, it’s the one with the longest name.

New champ Rani Peffer won the title and $14,311. Today she gets another shot at winning. She can also break the one-day champion streak we’ve been on if she can defeat these two players: Evan Voorn, from Fort Worth, TX; and Kellie Herson, originally from Green Bay, WI.

Evan found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Federal Holidays.” He was in the lead with $800. In fact, he was the only one with any money, after both ladies landed in the hole, trying to figure out the oldest Federal holiday. Evan bet the $1,000 allowance and thought it was “Easter.” That was WRONG so he landed in the hole along with the ladies.

Kellie finished in the lead with $2,600. Rani was second with $1,600 and Evan was last with $800, but after the commercial break, Evan was bumped up to $2,800 on a reverse ruling. He was in the lead now and Rani got to make the first pick.

Rani found the first Daily Double in “Colleges & Universities.” She was now in the lead with $8,000, $800 more than Evan in second place. She bet $2,000 and thought it was Princeton. That was WRONG.

Kellie found the last Daily Double in “Lit-Tree-Ture.” In third place with $5,400, she had $3,000 less than Evan’s lead. She bet $2,000 and thought it was Wordsworth. That was WRONG.

Rani finished in the lead with $9,600. Evan was next with $7,200 and Kellie was in third place with $6,600.

Not surprisingly, ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE TROPIC OF CAPRICORN?

Antarctic and Capricorn actually have the same number of letters but when talking about the circles of latitude, we have to use their full names and that makes Capricorn the longest. For detailed info on the 5 major circles of latitude, check out this dedicated page on World Facts, Inc..

Kellie bet it all and finished with $13,200.

Evan doubled his money too, finishing with $14,400.

Rani bet just enough to guard against Evan. She added $4,801 and won her second game with $14,401. Her 2-day total is $28,712. Way to go, Rani!
