Final Jeopardy: World Geography (11-2-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (11/2/2015) in the category “World Geography” was:
This country has 8 of the world’s 10 highest peaks.
New champ Katie Walker won $5,000 on Friday with one hand tied behind her back. Just kidding but her left arm was, and still is, in a sling. Today she is up against these two players: Marcus Lewis, from Brooklyn, NY; and Christine Qualey, from Abington, MA.
Alex Trebek opened the show with his usual spiel about how some of this week’s players still have a chance to get in the TOC. But we already know t’ain’t so. Therefore, we will ignore that line of thought for the rest of the week.
Round 1: Christine found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Orders of Mammals” under the $2,000 clue with one clue remaining after it. She was in the lead with $4,200, $600 more than Marcus in second place. She bet $1,300 and came up with the duck billed platypus. That was WRONG as even she knew.

That ended the round so Marcus finished in the lead with $3,600. Christine was now second with $2,900 and Katie was last with $2,000.
Round 2: Katie found the first Daily Double in “Aesop ASAP” under the $2,000 clue. She was now in second place with $8,400, $2,400 less than Marcus in the lead. She bet her usual grand and came up with King Solomon. Even she knew that was WRONG.
Plutarch said Aesop once worked as an advisor to this fabulously rich King of Lydia. show
Marcus found the last Daily Double in “The British Monarch Who” under the $1,600 clue. In the lead with $10,800, he now had $3,400 more than Katie in second place. He bet $3,000 and he was RIGHT.

Marcus finished in the lead with $15,400. Katie was next with $8,200 and Christine was in third place with $6,100.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
HimalayanEcoTrek.com has a list of the eight highest peaks in the world, all located in Nepal, ranging from Mount Everest, the tallest at 8,848 meters, to Annapurna, at 8,091 meters. The website also has a travel guide dealing with everything you need to know about Nepal and mountain climbing tips in case climbing mountain peaks over 8,000 meters high is one of your burning ambitions.
Christie got it right. Her $3,900 bet brought her up to an even $10,000.
Katie also got it right. She bet $4,100 and finished with $12,300.
Marcus thought it was Tibet. He only bet $1,001. That left him $14,399 to win the match with and he is the new Jeopardy! champ.
Marcus Lewis is a tutor. During the chat, he related a childhood story about being followed by the Secret Service all day in Wyoming because his father tried to take a picture of Bill Clinton playing golf. It probably would have been bettter if Trebek asked Marcus if that scared him when he was only 5 or 6, instead of saying he bets Marcus has told that story “many times” in his life.

46/59. Katie did lose her second game by underwagering, that is true. She also said Turtle and the Hare instead of Tortoise and the Hare, giving a wrong title on the $400 Aesop Asap clue. Probably should have had $800 taken away which if happened and the rest of the game played as normal, would have given Marcus a lock.
What exactly is 46/59 all about?
It means out of the 59 clues revealed in this match, he got 46 right.
Exactly, my reaction to Katie’s wager was ”Katie, what are you doing with this wager? If you get it right, which you did, that’s $4,100, adding that to your $8,200, that would give you $12,300, while Marcus is still going to win with $1,001 wager if he gets Final Jeopardy! right or not.
