Wise FJ wager by Andrew, who looked to be toast after that ridiculous $10K DD wager.
Jonathan had 2 wheelhouse categories, Playwrights and Directors, but not enough to effect a runaway.
Biden’s gesture was the only stumper I knew for sure. FJ stumped me, as well as the players, but in hindsight it seemed pretty obvious. The year and city in the clue should have led us there.
I called it (look at yesterday’s comments). As said, a MUCH better game. I went all-in on Walt Whitman. Eh, whatever. I got all of the Hawai’ian words, and I thank my 3 years of living there for that. As for the river, I recalled a story from undergrad. The visiting professor was the one who said that it is “the River Granta, and, when it gets to the bridge, it changes it’s name”. So, I’ve always recalled that.
The only thing I can call Andrew’s final wager is “canny”.
I can’t be as definitive for tomorrow’s match. I’m not sure. If pressed, I would blurt out Tyler.
Whitman was from New York, Jason. Remember Bowdoin College to place Longfellow, who went there at the same time as Nathaniel Hawthorne and Franklin Pierce.
The FJ did make me work, but I did come up with Longfellow.
Happy to see Andrew advancing to the semifinals despite not getting this final. Good players today and today’s game was much better.
And we got our first triple stumper of the week and today’s Final was a tough one.
And then there were 17.
