Final Jeopardy: Video Games (10-9-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (10/9/2015) in the category “Video Games” was:
As part of its 30th anniversary celebration in 2014, this video game used the slogan “we all fit together.”
10x champ Matt Jackson is going for a milestone win today. His winnings are now up to $289,411 and he can tie Arthur Chu in games won. If that occurs, he will likely exceed Chu’s 4th place winnings record ($298,200). His opponents in today’s match are: Elicia Woerle, from Los Angeles, CA; and Emily Rollman, from Shawneetown, IL.
Round 1: We didn’t get to see the Jeopardy! round Daily Double today when 4 clues remained on the board. It was either under that lone $400 clue left in “A Little Alliteration,” or under one of three $200 clues left. Boom! All that DD hunting in the higher value rows was for naught.
Matt finished in the lead with $6,200. Elicia was second with $2,400 and Emily was last with $1,200.
Round 2: Matt speedily made up for that by finding the first Daily Double on the third pick in “War Novels” under the $1,600 clue. He now had $7,400, and that was $3,800 more than Elicia in second place. He bet $5,000 and he was RIGHT.
Paul Baumer is an idealistic enlistee until he sees the horrors of war firsthand in this 1929 novel. show
Matt’s very next pick was the last Daily Double in “Scientists” under the $1,600 clue. His score was $12,400 and that was now $8,800 more than Elicia. He bet $5,000 again and he was RIGHT again.
In 1877 Asaph Hall discovered its 2 moons, for which he won the Lalande Prize. show
Matt finished in the lead with $35,000, another massacre, er… runaway. Elicia was next with $3,600. Emily was in the hole for $1,200 so she was out of the game at this point.
BOTH of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
In a press release for it’s 30th Anniversary, the CEO of Blue Planet Software (sole agent for Tetris) said: “Our theme for the 30th Anniversary of Tetris is We All Fit Together. It speaks to how Tetris transcends cultures and language, and will continue to be fun for anyone, anywhere to play for generations to come. We all have an inherent desire to create order out of chaos – whether in playing a game or packing the trunk of your car. No matter where the game is played or brand is celebrated, there will always be Tetris.”
Elicia didn’t bet anything so she remained at $3,600.
Matt bet $15,000 and won the game with $50,000. His 11-day winnings are $339,411, putting him in a tie with Arthur Chu for consecutive games won and exceeding Chu’s total winnings for those 11 games.
Clarification: Arthur Chu’s winnings at the end of his 11th game totaled $297,200 and he got the extra $1,000 in the 12th game. See his statistics.
Note from VJ — I actually knew Matt won this one in advance and by how much because the information was already on Jeopardy.com and I saw it an hour before the game aired down here. LOL. (I am one of those people who don’t get hinky about spoilers.)
Keith Williams keeps track of the biggest one-day totals on the Final Wager and Matt’s $50K win today will definitely get on there.

What was Matt’s story last night? Something about a “wrapper” or rapper costume? Did anyone hear him talk about that?
In college, he had a challenge going on – who could come up with the cleverest Halloween costume. So he based his on puns and came up with a mobster outfit wrapped in cellophane — #gangsterwrapper. It’s already a hashtag on Twitter
I love Matts fake smile. Everytime he does he is thinking of the lawyers that have yelled at him over the years and how he is sticking it to them cause he is not going back to work.
nah, he graduated from college in 2014 so he hasn’t been out in the workforce for years and besides, his mom is a federal judge. I doubt any lawyers have been yelling at him.
I missed the show tonight. Did Elicia have 3500 or 3600?
$3,600, Marilyn. Sorry ’bout that. I fixed it.
Thanks.
I can just picture him next time. He’ll hold up all ten fingers, and then one finger … and then two … and then three ………. someday, he’ll hold up all ten twice, and then one … then two … then three …..
I think the ratings go up when there’s a marathon winner on the show, so I also think his buzzer is oiled, if you know what I mean. But don’t go by me; I’m cynical.
LOL. He was waving those 10 fingers around today. Showing off — I always see that as a sign that the end is near .
When is he going to stop winning, I said?
I’m sure you know — He will stop winning when he loses.
Demolition Man does it again. Poor Emily couldn’t even stay in the sandbox…he’s so meeeaann.
No DD in the 1st round; I guess Elicia’s baby story was a bit long. And for Halloween, does he really need a costume?…
“…his buzzer is oiled.” LOL. Tom, you’re a funny guy but I have to agree with VJ—I don’t see many fingers in his future.
But I raise a toast to him tonight—L’Chaim!
LOL. Cece, you’re right about the Halloween costume. Elicia’s story wasn’t really too long until Alex added his own story..
I liked Emily’s story — Ben Affleck asked for it. :):)
VJ- The info they posted on J! website about Matt’s winnings today, why would they post his total already if he’s not finished, ummm. Also, Chu’s total disappeared; there is only his name below Matt’s.
Beats me why they would post it. I guess they can always update it if he wins more games. Hopefully, after the game, not before like they did today. I doubt I’m the only person that saw it. I just happened to go there to check Chu’s total.
I also have no idea why they don’t put the score for the last person. How much extra work can that be? LOL
