Will found the first Daily Double in “Chemistry” under the $1,600 clue on the 16th pick of the round. He was in last place with $3,400, $6,200 less than Stephanie’s lead. Will bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

WHO IS DASHIELL HAMMETT?
Dashiell Hammett had more than one address while living in San Francisco in the 1920s. Don Herron, author of “The Dashiell Hammett Tour”, confirmed that 620 Eddy Street was where Hammett lived the longest when the property was on the market in 2023 with a building on Leavenworth.
Other places Hammett lived were Monroe Street. The whole block is named after him now. And then there’s Sam Spade’s address. The Dashiell Hammett website dedicated a page to Jeopardy!’s 891 Post Street clue from 2013, where Hammett is said to have written “The Maltese Falcon”.
Dashiell Hammett came up 4th on this list of the 15 Most Famous Detective Novelists, quite an honor when you consider the Top 3! One of today’s triple stumpers was about a short story by No. 1.
Will got it right. He bet $9,399 and finished with $18,799.
Stephanie didn’t have a response. She lost her $5,000 bet and was left with $5,400.
Tristan went with Mosley of the Easy Rawlins novels. He bet and lost his whole $10,000. That made Will Wallace the new Jeopardy! champ.

What a game! Steph rallied from her early brain freeze on Magnum, and Will from that missed DD. Overall, many of the clues were not too tough. $1200 for Joan of Arc’s ashes in 1431? $1000 for Martin Luther?
Figured Final had to be Chandler or Hammett and went the wrong way, even though I think the former was more LA-oriented.
A bit disappointed no one knew the immigrant saint. And very surprised no one knew “Deerslayer” author.
Stephanie would still have lost, had she gotten DJ correct. Alas, I, also, got it wrong. 2/3 on DD and got more than half the TS.
It was another great game, and It seemed that the clues were easier than yesterday. As for FJ, I went for broke and placed my chips on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as I gambled that he moved to the United States during his later years.
That turned out to be quite a competitive game, esp between Stephanie and Tristan. Kudos to all of them, but esp Will for not giving up and winning the game with the only right response in FJ!
I was surprised at the TS on the Deerslayer author. I guess they didn’t see the October 9th Pathfinder FJ! I ran that saints category today like I ran yesterday’s nursery rhymes — 2 topics I was fond of as a young’un.
