Final Jeopardy: Today’s International Film Stars (10-19-15)

The Final Jeopardy question (10/19/2015) in the category “Today’s International Film Stars” was:

The first 2 Spanish actors to win acting Academy Awards, they got married soon after they both had won.

2x champ Josh Silverman has won $34,800 so far. He is back today to take on these two players: Dean Meyer, from Winder, GA; and Martin Schmidt, from Media, PA.

Round 1: Josh found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Mark Your Calendars” under the $800 clue. It was the 6th pick of the round. He was in a tie for the lead with Martin at $800, $600 more than Dean in second place. He bet the $1,000 allowance and he was RIGHT.

The Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1970, appropriately the same year of the debut of this annual April event. show

Josh and Martin finished in a tie for the lead with $4,400 each. Dean was next with $2,000.

Round 2: Dean found the first Daily Double in “Hi Q” with the Q in quotations. That did not necessarily mean the answer would begin with a Q. She was in third place with $4,800, $3,600 less than Josh in the lead. She bet $3,500, and she was RIGHT.

An estimated 200,000 of them live on the French side of the Pyrenees. show

Dean found the last Daily Double in “The Good Old 1700s” under the $1,200 clue. She was now in the lead with $9,900, $1,100 more than Martin in second place. She bet $3,000 and she was RIGHT.

This classic 1726 satire was originally titled “Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World” show

Dean finished in the lead with $15,700. Martin was next with $9,200 and Josh was in third place with $8,400.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO ARE JAVIER BARDEM and PENELOPE CRUZ?

Javier Bardem won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as hitman Anton Chigurh in “No Country for Old Men” in 2007. Penelope Cruz won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Maria Elena in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” in 2009. Javier Bardem played her husband in that film. The pair married for real in July 2010 and, as of this date, have two children.

Josh thought it was Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz. That cost him $4,601 and he finished with $3,799.

Martin wrote down Antonio Banderas and Mrs. Banderas. LOL. He lost his $6,601 bet, finishing with $2,599.

Dean got it right. Her $3,000 bet brought her up to today’s winning total: $18,700. Dean Meyer is the new Jeopardy champ!

Dean is a scientific editor. During the chat, she told a story about misidentifying her husband after he underwent an operation at the hospital. In the recovery room, she looked at another man and exclaimed, “My God, he looks terrible!” Then the nurse pointed out where her husband really was.

2 years ago:: TWO of the players got this FJ in “AFI’s 100 Funniest Films”

Thanks for watching! After the taping (when we’re standing around with Alex as the credits roll), Alex asked if I was an Oscars buff. I confessed that I never watched the Oscars, but that I had crammed the best movie/director/actor/actress lists in my hotel room the night before the taping. I also added that I was having such a rough time with the buzzer, I didn’t think I could beat Martin. That day was a huge thrill for me. And now – liberation! I will never again have to memorize ANYTHING in my life (except, obviously, my husband’s face…)

I remember another one of my “all 3” predictions going down the tubes because the guys weren’t up on “who married who” entertainment news. Too bad I didn’t remember it before I predicted “all 3” this morning. 🙂

Nonetheless, it was a good game. I thought each one of players would win at different points.

Also, I was very tempted to write “Dean finished in the lead with $15,700. Martin was next with $9,200 and Jerry Lewis was in third place… Just kidding, Josh was in third place with $8,400.” But I refrained in case anybody didn’t get that the joke really had nothing to do with Josh. LOL!
