Diana Ross: LaScala Conniption
Diva Diana Ross reportedly threw a temper tantrum at the Beverly Hills restaurant, La Scala, last week when they did not alter their policies to suit her Supreme-ness.
The commotion occurred because Ms. Ross’s daughter made a reservation to have lunch with her famous mama last Thursday afternoon, but the Motown star arrived at the posh Italian eatery ahead of her daughter. Ross, 68, asked to be seated but was informed (as she probably already knew anyway) that the restaurant’s policy prohibited them from seating partial groups, and everyone in her party had to be present before they could be seated. (Is this a dumb policy or what?)
Apparently miffed, Ms. Ross went to sit in a corner booth and await the arrival of her daughter. Management went over and explained that cutting the line was going to result in her not being served. When her daughter arrived, the problem escalated and both women ending up storming out of the restaurant.
La Scala owner Gigi Leon told the New York Post: “I’m sorry that Miss Ross had a problem with that and she feels that the rules didn’t apply to her. Our policy is that we don’t sit incomplete parties. If people jump the line, our policy is we don’t serve them, and she was told that. We treat everyone the same whether you’re famous or not. We love having her as a customer. We’d be happy to have her back.”
Diana Ross is as famous for her diva-ness as her songs, but we can’t say as we blame her for being peeved. If there is a table reserved waiting for you and your party, we don’t see what the big deal is. Wouldn’t that just be less people standing around waiting to be seated?
That wasn’t the problem. Her daughter had a reservation. The problem was their policy: they don’t seat incomplete parties (even if they have a reservation).
The problem was she did not have a reservation. Having a policy to not seat people without a reservation until the complete party is present is not unreasonable.
