Clemson Basketball Beats North Carolina in Chapel Hill for the First Time Ever

There was an interesting first time event in college basketball on January 11th. Clemson played at North Carolina–no, of course it wasn’t the first time these two ACC teams had met on the court in Chapel Hill, in fact it was the 60th time they’d played each other on the Tar Heels’ home court. In the previous 69 games, Clemson went home defeated. Every single time dating back to 1926.

Until January 11th, 2020. It took overtime to do it , but the Tigers ended nearly a century of frustration in Chapel Hill by beating the Tar Heels 79-76. The North Carolina 59 game home winning streak against one team was the longest such streak in the NCAA.

North Carolina has been uncharacteristically mediocre so far this season. The Tar Heels fell to 8-8 overall on the season, and 1-4 in ACC games. Clemson improved to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
