Bobby Brown Issues Statement on False Media Reports

Ever since Bobby Brown’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, was taken to a Georgia hospital on January 31st after being found unconscious in a bathtub, the singer has had to cope with conflated and exaggerated media reporting. His 21-year-old daughter was put in a medically induced coma and, initially, he simply asked for privacy during this horrible time for his family. News reports with the usual suspects (unnamed sources) were being churned out by the hour all the same. Bobby Brown stated that if he issued a statement every time a news outlet put something false out there, that’s all he would be doing 24/7.

The situation came to a head on Monday, February 10, when several outlets began reporting that the family planned to “pull the plug” and let Bobbi Kristina Brown die on February 11th, the third anniversary of her mother, Whitney Houston’s tragic death. On the same day, a candlelight vigil was held for Bobbi Kristina’s healing. Brown then released a statement through his attorneys that addressed the false reporting, the candlelight vigil and the nature of the investigation into what happened to his daughter:

“We support the candlelight vigil for Bobbi Kristina. The Brown family is amazed by the love and support from all that attended,” said Christopher Brown of Brown & Rosen LLC, legal counsel for Bobby Brown. “However the false reports that continue to appear in print and on the internet are egregious, false and will be dealt with at an appropriate time. In particular, the false reporting of TMZ, The National Enquirer, The Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Daily Mail (UK) citing, police sources, family sources and Bobby Brown himself, will receive my attention. The desire to be “first” has clouded the judgment of many reporters as they forgo accuracy. This is a criminal investigation and the integrity of that process requires silence.”

There is no information on Bobbi Kristina’s current condition in the statement and Brown continued to ask for privacy.

CNN has a more detailed report on what is known and what is not known at this point, and USA today has a video of a news interview with Leolah Brown, Bobby Brown’s sister, who reports that her niece is doing better and the Brown and Houston families continue to have every hope for her recovery.
