Blue Jays and Cardinals Clinch Division Titles
Baseball’s playoff picture became a little clearer after the games of September 30th as two division titles were wrapped up.
In Baltimore, the Toronto Blue Jays routed the Orioles 15-2, winning the American League East and capturing their first division crown in 22 years. The high score is indicative of how the Blue Jays season has gone: lots of offense. Toronto leads the American League in most offensive categories. Seven players have reached double figures in home runs, and three have over 100 RBIs. MVP candidate Josh Donaldson leads the team with 41 home runs and 123 RBIs.
While the Blue Jays ended their division title drought, the St. Louis Cardinals continued their winning ways. The Cardinals won their third straight National League Central crown, beating the Pirates in Pittsburgh 11-1. It was the Cardinals 100th victory of the season, and they will end the regular season with the best record in baseball. The N.L. Central is arguably the best division in baseball, with both the Pirates and Chicago Cubs joining the Cardinals in the post season as the two N.L Wild Card teams.
There’s a long way to go, but it’s certainly possible that we could have an all bird World Series this year.
