Beat Shazam Recap: June 22, 2017
Episode 4 of Beat Shazam aired on 6/22/2017, after a week off. Jamie and October returned with 3 new teams who will pit their music knowledge against each other for a chance to win a million dollars. At the end of the June 8th game, we were promised that the winner of this game would be playing for the top prize. Let’s find out who that will be.
Here are the teams with the nicknames we gave them.
- Besties: Shannon, of “Let the Music Play” fame, and Bobby, drummer for the original hip hop band, Stetsasonic. They’ve been friends for over 30 years
- Fire & Ice: Christina and Steve, a couple who say they are complete opposites (she’s fire)
- Bandmates: Clark & Joey, Orlando boys, who met while playing at a charity event 4 years ago and have been bandmates ever since

One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at the million if they get all 5 right. There are no more multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right.
1. Motown: “What’s Going On” (Marvin Gaye) $97,000
2. Alternative: “Hey There Delilah” (Plain White T’s) – $122,000
3. Taylor Swift: “Blank Space” $147,000
Christina did the Happy Dance, exclaiming “That’s the only song I know from her
4. One Hit Wonders: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (Deep Blue Something) $172,000
5. Oldies: “Hound Dog” $197,000
For the first time, it’s not gonna be win and double your money. It’s gonna be win and take home a cool million. But it’s still take home half if they lose, so we’re talking $1 million vs. $98,000. Would you take the shot? Christina and Steve were shown the Final Category: The 80s.
Christina said on the One Hit Wonders category that she grew up in the 80s and mentioned it again. They decided to beat Shazam for the chance of a lifetime. Only one of them could play and that one was Christina…. and she nailed it! Tears for Fears had a No. 1 hit in the USA with “Shout” in 1985.
Let’s all give a big “Shout” for Christina and Steve. They plan to use their winnings to help their parents. Christina wants to pay off her mom’s mortgage. Steve’s parents were in a bad motorcycle accident and Steve wants to pay their medical bills. They also want to be able to pay for a big wedding. We have a feeling that “Shout” will be featured prominently at that happy event. Maybe they can even hire “Tears for Fears” to play it!
