Americans Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson Win Gold in 100 meters at World Track and Field Championships
With the start of the 2024 Olympics just 11 months away, the prospects for the United States in the men’s and women’s 100 meters look encouraging. U.S. sprinters won gold in both events at the World Track and Field Championships (also referred to as the World Athletics Championships) in Budapest, Hungary.
Noah Lyles won the Men’s 100 meters with a personal best time of 9.83. It was a tight finish, as the next three runners were at 9.88. It was Lyles first Gold in the 100 meters at the World Championships; he is also a two time Gold Medal winner in the 200 meters, and was the Bronze Medalist in that event in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He will be competing in the 200 meters at these World Championships.
On the women’s side of things, former Louisiana State University sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson made a memorable debut in international competition, winning the women’s 100 meters in a World Championships record of 10.65, finishing ahead of Jamaican track legend Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce. Richardson will also be competing in the Women’s 200 meters.
