Alex Trebek Recovering from Surgery

J!Buzz reported today that Alex Trebek has been on medical leave from Jeopardy! after undergoing an operation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on December 16, 2017. The article, An Update from Alex Trebek, says our favorite game show host hit his head in a fall last October and sought medical advice when complications developed. He was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma.

“A subdural hematoma,” Web M.D. says, “is a collection of blood outside the brain. Subdural hematomas are usually caused by severe head injuries…. Some subdural hematomas stop and resolve spontaneously; others require surgical drainage.”

J! Buzz reported that Alex’s surgery was successful and he is expected to make a full and complete recovery. He was back home on December 18th and spent the Christmas holidays with his family. Alex Trebek taped this video for everyone to see that he is doing well at this time.

Alex is scheduled to return to work in mid-January. JBuzz! said “the only change made to the show’s schedule concerns the upcoming College Championship, which will now air in April.”

We’re sure no one will complain about that delay and will join us in wishing Alex the speediest of recoveries. Take good care of yourself, Alex! Everybody loves you!

Best wishes for a full and complete recovery, Mr. Alex Trebek! I am concerned and distressed to learn of your fall in October 2017 and brain surgery on 16 December 2017. My poor dear Mother and I long loved watching JEOPARDY! on television, and I still do. Showing your CBC journalist training during the interview break is always a treat to watch. Thank you for your key contributions toward a smarter world. I am including examples from JEOPARDY! in my forthcoming doctoral dissertation chronicling the history of radio and television space coverage from 1922 to 2017. I greatly look forward to watching you in the coming years.
