WHO ARE THE MEDICI?

The House of Medici was an Italian family that ruled the city-state of Florence, and later Tuscany for the better part of the 15th century through the early part of the 18th century. According to the website Florence Inferno, it all began when members of the Medici family moved from the Mugello valley to Florence around 1200, although the family’s history over the next two centuries is unverifiable. The Medici are believed to have greatly embellished their early history; however, it is believed that the founder of the family was a doctor.

The Medici’s rise to power began in earnest in the 15th century when they established a bank and soon “wet their beaks” in other businesses. Their support of the papacy did much to increase their prestige and power. Four members of the family became popes. Their support of the arts had a huge impact on the Italian Renaissance. The Medici were also known for their efforts to keep Florence free from foreign domination. Two Medici women married kings of France and ruled as Queens Regent when their minor sons inherited the French crown.

Lynde bet $4,000. That brought her up to $10,000.

Carter bet $2,801. He finished with $12,601.

Henry bet $7,501. He won the game with $20,101. Henry Rozycki is the new Jeopardy! champ.

I thought Henry not coming up with the response on two clues was telling (ringing in, and, being lost for words), I predict that he is a one day champion.

Of course, if I am incorrect, I’ll gladly have my meal of words with some hot sauce!

Good match tonight. Just a reminder:
    Tuesday is 2/22/22 aka “Two’s”day. 😅

Good game and a cinch Final. Lynde probably would have eventually seized the lead and won the game had she nailed that very tough DD. She will never forget the name of that novel.

  4. Lou says:

Good to start the week off with a triple solve today despite that true daily double not paying off for Lynde. I would love to see another triple solve tomorrow. The Medici were responsible for the funding of the piano and opera.
