Buccaneers Rout Chiefs 31-9 to Win Super Bowl LV
In the Super Bowl LV showdown between past champions Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, it was Brady who once again won the Lombardi Trophy as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Tampa on February 7th. Brady is a Super Bowl champion for the seventh time, his first with Tampa Bay after six with New England. He is also now a five time winner of the Super Bowl MVP award.
Brady completed 21 of 29 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions. Two of the TD passes were to his old pal Rob Gronkowski, whom Brady coaxed out of retirement. The other was to ex Steeler Anthony Brown, who played with Brady briefly in New England last year. Leonard Fournette, signed by Tampa Bay in September after Jacksonville let him go, rushed for 87 yards and scored the other touchdown. Right here is where Brady was also of great value to the Buccaneers. He signed with Tampa Bay knowing that they had some excellent receivers and a generally good offense and defense, but he also convinced the team brass to go get some players that he knew would make a good team great, and it paid off with a championship. The takeaway is when a superstar quarterback has some suggestions for players he feels will help win, the front office should at least give those suggestions serious thought. I’m looking at you, Green Bay.
An equal share of the credit for the Tampa Bay win must go to the Buccaneers’ defense. Mahomes was sacked only three times, but was under constant pressure. He was intercepted twice. By the fourth quarter, Mahomes was running for his life on every play and the Chiefs offensive line looked so worn out that it had ceased to exist as quarterback protection. The Chiefs will have to address that in the offseason.

You’re correct. The Tampa Bay defense was awesome. I never envisioned such a one-sided score but it was a joy to watch even though my team lost or should I say beat into submission. Tom Brady is definitely the G.O.A.T.
