Final Jeopardy: Mythological Creatures (1-1-21)
The Final Jeopardy question (2/6/2017) in the category “Mythological Names” was:
With depths of up to 30,000′, ocean trenches make up a zone named for this brother of Poseidon & his domain.
6x champ Lisa Schlitt was up to $139,100 when this game originally aired. Her opponents were: Matt Kellison, from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and Jill Rausch, from Phoenix, AZ.
I don’t see how I can improve on THE ORIGINAL RECAP OF TODAY’S GAME that I did back in 2017.
The format is pretty much the same as the one I’m working with these days, except that the list of TRIPLE STUMPERS was posted separately.
Just for fun, though, I decided to try to make anagrams out of the Daily Double answers today. I’ve always wondered how the clue writers go about putting the anagram categories together and whether you can do it with random clues. As it turned out, I didn’t have to scrap the idea for this particular set of Daily Doubles:
A FICTIONAL DEATH: In 1991 John Updike won his second Pulitzer for this aptly titled final novel about Harry Angstrom
BRAT TRIES BAT
BROADWAY SHOWS IN LATIN: “Mea Domina Bella”
FAMILY YARD
CLASSICAL MUSIC: Gustav Holst finished this work by writing “Mercury” in 1916
TENTH LEAPS
Here’s hoping everyone has a fine New Year’s Day and this year is kinder to all of us than last year was.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! Today is the last game of the Around the World with Alex series and there will be big changes coming up for Jeopardy! in 2021. Next Monday, we’re going to be viewing the final 5 episodes that Alex taped. It’s going to be bittersweet, I’m sure. Maybe more bitter than sweet. We’ll be glad to get back to new games, but next week will be the last time the “new” games will be the same.

Huh? This isn’t the format I’m accustomed to.
Paul, this show was a rerun from 2-6-17 and I did a recap of the game when it first aired. It is already on the site and there is a link to it in the above post.
I don’t understand how anyone can be missing this statement in the above post:
“I don’t see how I can improve on THE ORIGINAL RECAP OF TODAY’S GAME that I did back in 2017.”
Vj—Wishing you a joyful and peaceful new year! May you continue to enjoy good health and countless joyful moments with your loved ones.
P.S. Thanks for the “Auld Lang Syne” video. Awesome.
Thanks, Cece. My best wishes for the New Year to you and your loved ones as well.
VJ, what a great job you did with the anagrams! You never cease to amaze me!
Thanks, Rhonda!

Starting on Monday is the last week of Alex Trebek. We will pick up where we left last time with a 4x champ.
