Kentucky Loses to Louisville for Sixth Straight Loss

Perennial college basketball powerhouse Kentucky is finding itself in uncharted territory in the early part of the season 2020-21. The Wildcats lost 62-59 at cross state rival Louisville on December 26th and dropped to 1-6 on the season. The last time Kentucky opened the season 1-6 was way back in 1926 according to ESPN.

One reason for the poor start is the fact that no starters remain from last year’s team that went 25-6. They are used to high turnover in Lexington, with so many players leaving for the NBA after one or two years, but this team has eight freshmen on the roster (from what is a typically well regarded Kentucky recruiting class), four sophomores, and three seniors, two of whom transferred in and are playing for the Wildcats for the first time.

Kentucky has also not had an easy schedule so far, losing to then #7 Kansas and then #22 North Carolina. The Wildcats open SEC play on January 2nd, which is always a grind in that highly competitive conference, and Kentucky also has one more non conference game scheduled, hosting #10 Texas on January 30th.

While the team is bound to come together as the season progresses, the Wildcat fans will have to be patient and prepare for the possibility that the team will have an off year. That is something that ‘Cats fans are not used to.
