WHO IS DR. GUILLOTIN? (“Guillotine” accepted from all 3)

From History Rundown: “In year 1789, Joseph Guillotin proposed, that ”every criminal shall be decapitated; this will be done only by means of a simple mechanism, which beheads painlessly”. However, Guillotin had nothing to do with the following terror of French Revolution. In fact, he opposed the death penalty. After his death in 1814, his children, embarrassed by the association with the guillotine, changed their surname to ”Mercier”.

    Alex said he will be in Philly in the next month or two. Did anybody get an invite yet for an in-person Philly audition?

  3. John Christian Ambion says:

    Wow, all 3 wrote with an “e” at the end, but Alex made an executive decision not to penalize. If it’s spelling, that’s fine but not if you add a syllable or adding to change it. Anyway. a triple solve, yet a piece of cake.

      @John Christian Ambion
      In this case they got lucky, since you pronounce it “GUIJOTIN”. and not “GUIJOTINE”.
      But there are a lot of words in French where the “e” at the end is silent, so I guess that’s why they gave them a break. French is kind of complicated there. In English you pronounce it e.g.” PERIS”,with the stress on the first syllable, in French “PARI” with a long “I” at the end and the stress on the second syllable. So does it have to be the English way or is the native pronunciation acceptable? In German it would be e.g. “WIEN”, with a long “I” and a silent “E”, in English “VIENNA”. So if the clue were “It is the capital of Austria”, would they accept “WIEN”??
      Somehow I have the feeling they try to create at least one more 4 game winner, so there would be as little 3 game winners as possible in the ToC. Right now there are still SEVEN of them. So we will see some of them either way.Scott,Dave,Ali and Marty look pretty safe, given the time span. So even if there would be 3 four game winners by the cut off date, we would still have 4 three game winners in the ToC.Probably not the most stellar reflection on the past year, mostly season 34 and a month or 2 in season 35 and J is imo trying to avoid that. Just saying…..

    Well we’ll, three days in.a row with triple solves. I like it. But still the leader curse continues until we get a big serial winner hopefully next week. I wished Lori would.win more if she was to eliminate Kate from the list. So it looks like the toc list won’t change at this point. Also VJ, ever read a tale of two cities? They used the guillotine in that book and there was a wishbone episode that covered it as well.

  5. John B./I. says:

    Again, surprise, surprise! 2 triple solves in a row!
    Congratulations to VJ and JJ and of course Kyle with a correct bet. Rick missed his chance yesterday to get on the ToC list by his zero bet.
    So now we start all over again and the clock is ticking. Kate must be a nervous wreck by now and Jeffrey and Suzanne are probably also rooting for one and 2 day champs…..
    Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Kate makes it to the ToC? Rick could have eliminated her yesterday……..
