WHAT IS COLORADO?

Colorado’s first bid to join the Union was vetoed by then President Andrew Johnson in 1866, who also tried to block the admittance of Nebraska. The latter ended up being the only state admitted during Johnson’s tenure and Colorado had to wait until August 1, 1876 during Ulysses S. Grant’s second term to become the 38th state. Jerry Kopel (1928-2012), who served as a Colorado state legislator for 22 years, wrote a short history on why it took so long for Colorado to don the robes of statehood. If it had happened any earlier, however, Colorado would not be known as “The Centennial State,” a nickname referring to the 100-year anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Jen wrote down Utah after crossing off New Mexico. She bet and lost it all.

Emily got it right. She bet $1,400 to finish with $9,800.

Tyler went with Nevada (again). He lost $4,901, dropping him down to $6,999. So Emily Milan won again. Her 3-day total is $45,001.

The youth and inexperience really showed with these 3 young people. When a person is 50, as I am, I am able to answer questions about the Carpenters and some others that the younger ones can’t answer. Then again I don’t know anything about the current music because I’m still living in the 1980s.

Tyler looks a lot like Nathan Kress.

I’m actually shocked that Jen did not know the iron Curtain. It was a barrier that was used during the cold war between russia.and germany. The red alert games has that iron curtain device, I am not sure if your kids have command and conquer red alert series, VJ?

Congrats to Emily on her third win. I hope she wins again for next week. Why did Tyler guess Nevada twice in this game? I thought he had a chance to go for Minnesota in the final jeopardy round.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, well, he would have had the same result whether he went for Nevada or Minnesota. I thought it was funny when Jen decided to switch out of Top 40 Hits after they all missed 2 clues with 1970s songs and Alex said it was before their time. The next clue was in “Extinct Peoples” about the 15th century. LOL! That was before everyone’s time 😀

      • Albert says:

After she missed the clue about The Carpenters she then went for the Extinct category. I thought that was very ironic, since Karen Carpenter is now extinct. I wonder if Jen subconsciously chose Extinct because of Karen Carpenter.

  5. Nell says:

I had a strong hunch Emily would know this FJ. Go Emily! I like that girl!😀

    • Nell says:

I just watched…at the end of the episode, Emily admitted to Alex that she just guessed. So much for my hunch! LOL!

      • VJ says:

LOL, Nell — it was a great guess, all the same 😉 It got Emily a chance to be a 4x champ.
