Today’s Final Jeopardy question (10/11/2017) in the category “Visual Vocabulary” was:

11x champ Austin Rogers is so close to going over the $400K mark today. His total as of yesterday is $394,700! These two players are about to try to prevent that: Brian Kato, from Washington, DC; and Lisa Rhae Burgess, from Surfside Beach, CA.

Austin found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “A Place for Yourself” under the $800 clue, with 7 clues left after it. He was in the lead with $7,200, twice as much as Lisa Rhae in second place. He bet $4,200 and he was RIGHT.

Brian found the first Daily Double in “‘AU’thors” under the $1,200 clue on the 3rd pick. He was in third place with $3,600 at this point, $9,000 behind Austin’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double but blanked out on it so he was WRONG.

Brian found the last Daily Double in “England” under the $1,600 clue on the 13th pick. In third place with $400, he had $14,200 less than Austin’s lead. He bet the $2,000 allowance and he was RIGHT.

Austin finished in the lead with a runaway $15,400. Brian was next with $7,200 and Lisa Rhae was in third place with $6,400.
ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
The Etymology Dictionary says “sepia” means “rich brown pigment,” and that it was originally adopted into the English language from the Italian word “seppia” for “cuttlefish,” which came from the Latin and Greek “sepia,” meaning the same thing. Somewhere along the line, the term was applied to the color of brown paint or ink prepared from the cuttlefish’s fluid secretions. Also see: The History of Sepia Photography
Lisa Rhae bet $6,000, bringing her up to $12,400.
Brian bet $5.601. He finished with $12,801.
Austin bet a modest $900 so he won this one with $16,300. His 12-day total is $411,000, $612 less than Matt Jackson made in his 13-day run. Surely, everyone will tune in tomorrow to see if Austin beats that.

Perhaps it’s just me but too much was made out of the Latin origin in the fj clue. I ignored it and focused on the word “nostalgia” because in edit on my Samsung smartphone one of the picture camera effects is nostalgia, and the color is sepia.
Btw, I am not a photographer. Is this feature on iPhone camera edit effects?
I think the contestants reached the same conclusion.
Did Austin cut his hair & trim his beard?
Yes, Austin did cut his hair, but I’m not sure about the beard.
idk what to say about this one. One funny moment was that “wait, don’t tell me” thing. Also, I didn’t know that the fist bump is also called “dap.” Heh. It amuses me to try to keep up with these expressions so I’m going to have to try it out and see how it goes.
Surprising how Austin ended up with a runaway even though he didn’t get the Round 2 DDs or even answer many clues in that round. I felt for Brian on the Bishop of Hippo DD, and wished he had more to work with on the next one.

February 28 2018 is his last game.
Truth? How much cash does he end up with? Does that make him overall champion, above Ken & how do you know?
Well, congrats once again to Austin on winning game 12. He has almost half of what Seth Wilson’s total was back in 2016. Also, how much latin do you remember, VJ? And also the word sepia reminds me of the fish study call icthyology in biology so it’s a combination of latin and science all together. I wonder if your kids took biology and studied the animal kingdom with latin words, VJ?
I never studied Latin in a regular course, Lou. I went to Catholic schools though and when I was growing up, the Mass was in Latin and they taught us prayers and hymns in Latin, like Adeste Fideles and Tantum Ergo (I remember singing that one for my grandfather when I was 8). I don’t really know how much Latin my kids know but I’d say I know more than them and they know more in biology than me. I hated biology from the moment they showed up with the dead frog.
Ooh I know how that feels. Dissecting a frog is really not something I would do in science class it really would make me vomit if I do that again. But still, glad that you remembered those hymns you sang. When I was in elementary school, I did small bits of latin though not much else I can remember. And sure maybe some basic spanish but that’s about it. Still though, growing up I took science in middle school high school and college and that was it no more science for me because there was too much for me to remember. I would imagine that you would never touch any animals in science class ever after seeing that dead frog right, VJ?
nope, I don’t think I put in much effort at all in science or biology after that and I did regret it to an extent later. At the time though, I felt that adults were rather unreasonable people who didn’t much care what made you feel sick.
What did Marcel Marceau mime at the introduction tonight, VJ?
@Cece, looked like it had something to do with baseball to me
