Warriors Beat Cavaliers, Win 2nd NBA Championship in Three Years

Last summer, Kevin Durant signed with Golden State because he felt that the Warriors had the best chance of winning NBA championships, something Durant had not been able to do in Oklahoma City despite playing on some pretty good teams there. Golden State felt that the addition of Durant would virtually assure them of more titles and erase the memory of last season’s Finals, when the Warriors had a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers only to see it slip away and see LeBron James win the championship that he had returned to Cleveland to win for that franchise.

On June 12th, Durant, the Warriors, and their fans got their wish. Golden State polished off Cleveland 129-120 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to win the series 4 games to 1, and Golden State’s 5th NBA title. And Durant certainly did his part, averaging 35.3 points per game in the Finals and winning the Finals’ MVP Award.

The victory closed out a remarkable playoff run for the Warriors, who were 16-1 in the post season, with many of the wins made in overpowering fashion. Add that to a 67-15 regular season record , best in the league, and it is appropriate to add this team to the list of all time great NBA teams. With their stars in their prime, and a deep bench, there’s no reason to believe we won’t see Golden State in the Finals again next season.
