WHO IS WILLIAM REHNQUIST?

In 1971, President Richard Nixon appointed William Rehnquist to the U.S. Supreme Court. His nomination was confirmed (68-26) on 12/10/1971. When Warren Burger announced his resignation as chief justice, President Ronald Reagan nominated Rehnquist as his replacement on 6/20/1986. He was confirmed on 9/17/1986 by a 65-33 vote, holding the office until his death on 9/3/2005. (More on Supreme Court Historical Society)

Meghan didn’t have a response. She lost her $3,600 bet and had $3,800 left.

Alan got it right. He doubled his score to $14,800.

Matt thought it was Earl Warren. That cost him $3,801 bet so he landed in second place with $7,199. Alan remains the champ and has a 6-day total of $123,600.

Hey, why aren’t any of you Jeopardy geniuses noticing that they got the Pinewood Derby youth organization wrong? Also, it looked to me like Alan spelled Rehnquist wrong, but maybe his Q just looked like a G.

    • VJ says:

That Pinewood Derby thing was addressed on Jeopardy!’s Facebook — though the derby is done by the Cub Scouts, “the overall organization is the Boy Scouts.”

I’m just gonna ignore your little “geniuses” jab. No one over here claims to be a genius or expert on the show.

Oops! I almost forgot to put the link up to the extra clues from today’s match.

I was disappointed that Alan didn’t play like Matt Jackson or Seth Wilson as he should have today. Meantime, if Alan and Meghan wagered everything and were both right, and Matt wagered $3,800 and if he was right, then it would be a three way tie.

  4. EricS says:

I would have advocated a zero wager for either Alan or Meghan (although especially Alan).
Meghan should have bet it all on the last DD. The chances of coming back into relevance from 600 are slim. I’m glad that it became moot.

What was the Galapagos word of the day for 05/01/2017?

    • VJ says:

It’s the last word in the title of a 1960s Richard Burton movie based on a Tennessee Williams play.

      What is IGUANA?

      (sorry, feeling silly)

  6. Linda Harper says:

Alex Trebek is a REAL HOTTIE!!!!

    • Celia says:

Keep your eyes off my Alex! Besides, he was hot way back when he had the mustache (which took me a gazillion years to make peace with his “new face” after he shaved it off); but he’s still hot nonetheless.

  7. Lou says:

Congrats to Alan on winning game 6, he has passed Tim Aten although he is still 5000 dollars shy of Lisa Schlitt’s total. Rehnquist was a good guess, but I was also thinking that Scalia served a lot longer than Ginsburg or Samuel Olito, don’t you think so VJ?

  8. Lewis Wrobel says:

The Final Jeopardy question and answer was incorrect. There are 6 chief justices that previously were associate justices. John Roberts , the current chief justice was an associate justice. The last chief justice to have previously been an associate justice is John Roberts. The error affected the outcome of the game.

    • Kevin Krist says:

You’re wrong. Roberts was nominated to be an Associate Justice in 2005 to succeed Sandra Day O’Connor. However, Chief Justice Rehnquist died before Roberts’s confirmation hearings began, so President Bush changed the nomination to instead nominate Roberts to fill the chief justice position. Roberts was confirmed as Chief Justice, never having served as an Associate Justice.
