Finding Nefertiti – Maybe

According to Egyptian antiquities minister, Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty, the “discovery of the century” may be coming very soon. At a press conference on Thursday, March 17th, Dr. Eldamaty announced that radar scans of King Tutankhamun’s famous tomb in Luxor have shown a 90% chance that there are two hidden chambers to the rear of it. The scans also show that there are objects in the adjoining rooms.

The world has long been fascinated with the story of King Tut since the discovery of his tomb by Howard Carter in 1922, giving Egyptologists a wealth of incredible artifacts to study and add to their knowledge of Tut-ology (to coin a phrase) and the life of the Egyptian rulers in the 14th century B.C.

National Geographic is sending a team of specialists to Egypt at Eldamaty’s invitation towards the end of this month to conduct another series of radar tests, with a view toward determining the thickness of the walls and figure out, we assume, the best way to get through them to the hidden chambers.

The excitement is building as speculation grows that Queen Nefertiti’s tomb may be the ultimate discovery. Whatever they find, according to UCLA Egyptologist Kara Cooney, could lead to a total reevaluation of the 18th Dynasty.
