Kyle found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Archer” under the $1,000 clue. There were still 6 clues left on the board after it and she was in the lead with $6,200. That was $4,800 more than Demi in second place. She bet $1,000 and thought it was Orion. That was WRONG.

Kyle finished in the lead with $5,400. Demi was second with $1,600 and Fred was last, back to zero, after losing $1,000 on the last clue they got to.
Round 2 Categories: State Fish – Female Title Roles – Roaring 20s Reader – U.S. University Towns – “Eye” Witness – Texas Children’s Hospital (with clues read by Dr. Jen Arnold)
Kyle found the first Daily Double in “Roaring 20s Reader” under the $1,200 clue with 7 clues left after it. In the lead with $13,000, she had $600 more than Fred in second place. She bet $3,000 and came up with “The Scarlet Letter.” That was WRONG.

Fred found the last Daily Double in “Texas Children’s Hospital” under the $2,000 clue. He was in the lead with $12,000 now, $2,000 more than Kyle in second place. He bet $2,000 and thought it was hypoxia. That was WRONG.

Kyle finished in the lead with $10,400. Fred was right on her heels with $10,000 and Demi was in third place with $3,200.

Demi’s “Thermopalye” spelling was acceptable so she got it right and doubled her score to $6,400.
Fred also got it right and spelled it right. He bet $6,000 and finished with $16,000.
Kyle wrote down “Mt. Vesuvius.” That cost her $10,000. She was left with $400 and that made Fred Vaughn the new Jeopardy! champ. Well done, Fred!
Trebek’s Bad: In the first round, Trebek somehow got mixed up when Kyle and Demi rang in on a “Pop Hits of the 80s” clue. He called on Demi but then said he was sorry, and gave this clue to Kyle: ($200) “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” was from Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart, the duo behind this band.
During the chat, when he came to Demi, Trebek said “Good news for you. A little while ago, I in error called your name instead of our champion’s name even though her light was on and you responded (the answer) at the same time almost that she did. So I think that was a little unfair for us to not credit you with $200 so you’re gonna get credit for that.”

Ao in cacao is a dipthong. Cacaovi is a Spanish version of a native word. ka kay oh is an incorrect pronunciation.
You know what’s funny about that, Robert? I could swear I’ve heard Alex say cacao the right way, just can’t remember for sure. The last time the word was in a clue, it was in the category Marketing and it was Kelly Miyahara who read it

More so if you know greek history or watched that one movie..
Perhaps seeing the movie helped with the answer they were looking for, but I don’t think the same can be said for knowledge of the actual history. The actual history makes it pretty clear that a significant portion, and perhaps a majority, of the Greek army retreated, and therefore survived, after learning that the Persian forces were flanking them.
As near as I can figure the only thing that could reconcile the clue with that reality is requiring that “known Greeks” means only Greeks who were known by name. That seems awfully nit picky given that we know of many Greeks surviving, even if their names may be unknown. The names do point to the desired answer, but that turns on much more detailed knowledge, and fails to reconcile the historical inaccuracy that should be apparent to those with more than a cursory knowledge of the Battle of Thermopylae. It’s one thing for a clue to benefit those who know certain minor details, and another to put a those with thorough knowledge at a disadvantage.
There’s no telling how that affected Kyle’s response, but if a contestant gets final jeopardy wrong it should be because of ignorance. In this instance it’s entirely possible that knowledge led her away from the desired answer, leaving her to guess at other possibilities.
There were several thousand Greeks from other cities. It should have stated surviving Spartans. Other Greeks fought with the Spartans for the first 2 days.
STILL! No 4 or 5-time champion. I’m surprised Kyle didn’t win her fourth game today. She might’ve missed watching her fourth Jeopardy! game tonight due to a weather report.
Tough breaks for Kyle on her DDs today. Helveticum=Swiss; the world’s most famous gamekeeper=Mellors, thanks to Lady Chatterley (check out one of the films, Kyle)
@Cece, did you laugh at this schwa clue? … A schwa is in the middle of this adjective meaning suffering from feelings of persecution…. I did — not just at the clue — but Alex when he gave the answer.
That totally cracked me up! Between the clue and Alex, plus your Tuesday’s quote of the day and my comment yesterday, lol.
Yeah, those DD’s totally tripped Kyle up. Poor Fred was a nervous wreck. I worried about him when he got that DD, he seemed barely able to breath. He had a nice comeback after the 1st round—I never thought he would win the game.
At the end of the first round, it did look like Kyle could get a runaway. But I did think he would win when he caught up in the second round because I thought he would be the only one to get FJ. (Good for Demi).
I wonder if Kyle knew the answer to Fred’s DD and if he knew the answer to any of hers.
Yes, the 1st round looked like Kyle had the game in the bag. As for FJ, when I saw the category (thank you writers!), I thought it would be a triple stumper.

Kyle, you were 1 correct response away from the 14th spot in my 6th version of the Tournament Of Champions. Man, if only you got Final right in your 1st appearance or if you wagered as much as you could on Wednesday, which was $13,599. Again, I just can’t catch a break. Well, 1 more week to go before the College Championship, and if I don’t get a spot in the tournament before then, then whoever wins the College Championship will get the 14th spot in my 6th version of the TOC, without avoiding it.
