You may not agree with the order, or you may even think another Brando film should be on there, like “Viva Zapata!” (1952). Brando got a Best Actor nomination for that one.
“Teahouse of the August Moon” was MGM’s biggest picture of 1956. Brando was nominated for a Golden Globe Best Actor for his portrayal of Sakini, a native Japanese translator.
Brando also got a Best Supporting Actor nomination for playing Ian Mackenzie in “A Dry White Season” (1989).
A lot of Brando fans love the musical “Guys and Dolls” (1955) in which Brando did his own singing. Barbra Streisand thought it was hot.
Besides Emiliano Zapata, other historical roles that Brando played were Napoleon Bonaparte in “Desirée” (1954) with Jean Simmons in the title role and Merle Oberon as Empress Josephine.
Brando played Fletcher Christian in the 1962 remake of “Mutiny on the Bounty”. He was Torquemada in “Christopher Columbus: The Discovery” (1992) and George Lincoln Rockwell in the 1979 TV miniseries “Roots: The Next Generation.”
