The last semi-final match of the 2014 College Championship is today. Here are the competitors for that last spot in the finals: Julia Clark a Harvard senior; Erika Sloan, a sophomore at Middlebury College; and Kevin Shen, a junior at the Univ. of California at Berkeley.

Kevin found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “States Lines” under the $800 clue, before the first break. He was in the lead with $4,400, $3,200 more than Erika in second place. He bet $1,000 and he was RIGHT.

Kevin finished in the lead with $7,000. Erika was second with $4,000 and Julia was last with $3,000.

Erika found the first Daily Double in “French History” under the $800 clue. She was in second place with $5,600, $5,400 behind Kevin’s lead. She bet $1,600 and she was RIGHT.

Erika found the last Daily Double in “Sorority Sisters” under the $1,600 clue. In third place with $10,400, she had $2,600 less than Kevin’s lead. With one clue left on the board, she bet $1,200 and she was RIGHT.

Kevin finished in the lead with $13,000. Erika was next with $11,600 and Julia was in third place with $10,600.

Kevin bet $10,201 so he won the match with $23,201, the highest score among finalists, but it’s a tight range:

    yeah, I thought she might as well have gone big on that last DD. no second or third place to worry about. Of course, that’s easy to say — she didn’t know the FJ category at that point.

      in some situations you HAVE to take a risk. there is no tomorrow for you in j once you are eliminated. it’s either-or…

      of course you can play it defensively, hoping the leader strikes out at fj. i would play it rather offensively and be in control of my destiny, for better or worse than have to rely on the bad luck of others.

    well,erika should have gone for it at the last dd and bet 2.601 or more (nobody knew the last clue would stay on the board).
    the old “should have, would have…”
    it should be an interesting 2 day final though. i still have a hunch that terry will pull it off….however, all 3 are very good contestants. we shall see!
