Carrie Fisher Treated for Bipolar Episode

Actress and author Carrie Fisher was briefly hospitalized after a pissy performance on a cruise ship where she was the secret celebrity guest.

Yahoo reports that the 56-year-old actress had a problem remembering the lyrics to songs in her set, including “Bridge over Troubled Water” (a hit for her ex-hubby Paul Simon). She also had a dog onstage who chose the occasion to go to the bathroom. A youtube of the incident, showing Fisher grabbing the dog and putting the cloth used to clean up after it behind a couch pillow, was promptly complained about and taken down

Fisher, the daughter of 50s crooner Eddie Fisher and film and stage star Debbie Reynolds, has been frank about her struggles with drugs an alcohol. In a Prime Time interview with Diane Sawyer back in 2000, she confessed that she thought of herself as just a straight up drug addict — “just someone who could not stop taking drugs willfully,” but she came to see that there was a reason for it and it was became she is “severely manic depressive.”

She is also the author of many books, several of which are about her own addiction problems, the last being Shockaholic, published in 2011, in which she relates her experiences with shock treatment and, as the title implies, confesses a dependency of sorts upon it.

Fisher, who continues to appear in TV and films, is most famous for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy. There is a rumor afoot that she will reprise that role in a 2015 Star Wars movie, called Episode VII.
