Robert Blake: Of Course I Didn’t Do It

At the risk of riling up some of “poor” Robert Blake’s fans, here is a clip from his appearance on Dr. Phil. When Dr. Phil asks him if he killed his wife, his reaction is a whole helluva lot more mellow than his earlier interview with Piers Morgan.

Back in July, Blake got rather angry with Morgan for bringing up that line of questioning. Of course, we do not claim to know whether Blake is lying or telling the truth. All we know is he is an actor.

He’s played some pretty evil characters in his day, such as family annihilator, John List in a 1993 made-for-TV movie; he played one of the rapists in the 1961 drama “Town Without Pity”; and most famously, he played Perry Smith in the 1967 film “In Cold Blood” based upon Truman Capote’s book.

On the other side of the coin, he played George in a 1981 TV version of Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men”; a former criminal turned priest in the short-lived 1985 TV sereis “Hell Town”; he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his portrayal of a motorcycle cop in 1973’s “Electra Guide in Blue.”

Will watching these films give you a real clue to the real Robert Blake? Probably not, but you might realize that he certainly has the ability to portray both good guys and bad guys. He even portrayed Jimmy Hoffa in 1983’s “Blood Feud” and his performance in that has been called one of his best efforts, second only to Perry Smith.
