WHO IS BILLY BOB THORNTON
Billy Bob Thornton (born William Robert Thornton) wrote the screenplay, directed and starred as the mentally challenged hillbilly Karl Childers in “Sling Blade” (1996). He was nominated for Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 1997 Oscars, winning the latter. Robert Duvall had small part in “Sling Blade” as Karl’s abusive father. In a 2014 Vanity Fair article, Duvall shared his nickname for Billy Bob: “the Hillbilly Orson Welles,” high praise considering Welles’ reputation as one of the most innovative and influential directors of all time.
Another Nickname: When it comes to his career as lead singer of The Boxmasters, Billy Bob chose to go by W.R. “Bud” Thornton. However, venues that book The Boxmasters often fail to respect that in order to capitalize on Thornton’s acting fame.
Sophia thought it was Clint Eastwood. She bet and lost her whole $7,000.
Devin went with Al Pacino. That cost him $10,000 and left him with $3,400.
Matthew had no response to the clue. He lost $5,201 but won the game with the remaining $16,399. Matthew’s 2-day total is $64,400. We will see Matthew again at the first podium when Season 43 of Jeopardy! premieres on September 14, 2026.
