“Jesus Christ Superstar” Jeopardy! Clues
When I was a child, there were a few years when they showed “The Wizard of Oz” every year at Easter. I still remember that but, at some point in my adult life, I took to watching “Jesus Christ Superstar” every Easter. I’m watching it right now on Amazon Prime.
Here are some Jeopardy! clues about the musical:
THE ’70s ($100) This Broadway rock opera chronicled the Savior’s last seven days
CHARACTERS IN MUSICALS ($100) Judas Iscariot, Pontius Pilate, Mary Magdalene
WE HAVE A FEW SPECIALS ($200) In 2018 Sara Bareilles was Mary Magdalene in a live-on-TV version of this Broadway musical
BIBLICAL BIG SCREEN ($600) As King Herod in this musical film, Josh Mostel challenged Jesus to “walk across my swimming pool”
THE “SUPER” BOWL ($800) Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber turned Jesus Christ into one in 1971
PLAY REVIVALS ($1200) Ted Neeley returned in the title role he’d played on film when this musical was resurrected in 1995
As you can see, the answer to these clues was the musical’s name. They also had a number of clues with these song titles from the show: “Pilate’s Dream”, “King Herod’s Song”, “Hosanna”, “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” and “Everything’s Alright” but, so far, they never had my favorite song.
The answer to the following clue is Judas, the character played by Carl Anderson in the film. Ben Vereen originated the role on Broadway.
ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER ($600) Andrew Lloyd Webber: “‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ took an unusual approach by framing it through the eyes of this one of Jesus’ apostles”
