Kershaw Defeats Mets For 200th Career Win
Clayton Kershaw is still a force to be reckoned with on a pitching mound. The 35 year old lefthander pitched seven innings of shutout ball and picked up his third win of the season, a 5-0 victory over the visiting New York Mets. Kershaw allowed just three hits and walked none, improving t0 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA.
The victory was also a career milestone, the 200th of Kershaw’s career. He’s 200-88, a winning percentage of .694 and an ERA of 2.48, with 2833 strikeouts. Kershaw is a three time Cy Young Award Winner, and in 2014 he won both the Cy Young and MVP awards, a year he was a mind boggling 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA. Kershaw has had some injury problems which have limited his number of starts during his career; he had 21 in 2016 and 22 each of the last two years, but even in his injury years, he’s put up some very good numbers—he was 12-4 with a 1.69 ERA and three shutouts in 2016 and 12-3 with a 2.28 ERA last year. He’s not done yet, but he’ll be a sure fire Hall of Fame selection when he does hang up his spikes.
