American Jordan Stolz Wins Three Gold Medals at World Speedskating Championships

It’s still three years until the next Winter Olympics, but you might want to remember the name Jordan Stolz in the meantime. Stolz is a speedskater from Wisconsin who, over the weekend of March 2nd-5th, 2023, won the 500 meters, 1000 meters, and 1500 meters at the speedskating World Single Distances Championships in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Stolz, by the way is just 18 years old. He’s the youngest skater to win a World Championship in history.

He won the 500 by 0.36 seconds, the 1000 by 0.67 seconds, and the 1500 by 0.23 seconds. Last year as a 17 year old, Stolz made the U.S. Olympic team for the 2022 Games in Beijing, finishing 13th in the 500 and 14th in the 1000. The U.S. team hasn’t won an Olympic Medal of any kind in the men’s 500, 1000, or 1500 since 2010. With Stolz getting bigger, stronger, and more experienced each year, that streak should come to an end.
